That is actually a problem I have. Yao deserves to be held to the same standard but oh boy....tmac just makes it so damn difficult and Yao seems to say all the right things its impossible to stay mad for long. Both need to get the boot soon though. And you are dead wrong about him playing his ass off. The guy wouldn't even run in practice let alone many times in games. Walk up the court. Hold the ball. Jack up a fadeaway. I used to be a HUGE fan, still have ahuge tmac poster on my wall, but he is not the same player. And the injury excuse? When does he not have one?
Shane Battier has played his ass off since he has arrived. I was never really a big fan of Battier aquisiton because of what it cost us to get him but I have never ever questioned his effort. Chuck hayes has played his ass off since he has arrived in Houston. If he would not have, he would not even be in the NBA. Tracy McGrady has taken multiple seasons off since he has been a Rocket. One of the seasons was missed due to mysterious personal reasons. Not couple of games. Entire friggin season. We should not be surprised since he has taken time off when he was in Orlando too. Tracy McGrady has continuously shown up to training camps out of shape. Year after year. Tracy McGrady has a history of playing in cruise mode for first half of the season. Tracy McGrady has been known to play defense only when he feels like it. Played his ass off my friggin ass. Rings? RINGS?!?! There are no second rounds!!! His fed up teammates had to get his ass into the second round, an ass which he was working off on his couch at home. It is comical to compare McGrady to Jordan and Hakeem right now. Complete opposites when it comes to work ethic. If McGrady had their work ethic, we would not have been having this conversation right now. We would be counting rings. PS. Tracy McGrady was just another piece of puzzle during the 22 win streak. You are being downright dishonest in making him out to be the sole reason for that accomplishment. It took Rafer's miracle 3s to win the game against the Lakers, not McGrady sulking out there.
I will take this bait. Tell me what the correct course of action is when you are in a lot of pain but team doctors tell you to get out there and play through it? When you are clearly in need of a major surgery, what are you supposed to do to get your point across if the organization will not listen to what you are saying?
I agree with DD, he said the right things and hopefully it will bring him less critisicm, I still think he deserves a shot, I am by no means a supporter of one player, just of the organization, I really believe if he can blend in and help this team on their winning ways, then we need to give him that chance to showwhat he has after his srugery, there are no more excuses. Put Mac back out there and let his play do the talk for once.
why does everything have to come down to, if you win you work hard, if you lose you dont. its not that black and white.
Wait for the organization to announce the surgery. Not go to espn and your website and announce it before them.
But thier opinion was that he didnt need surgery when he in fact did? Listen I don't condone his actions but I try to put myself his shoes before I make judgements. So again I ask, if he needs surgery but the team won't allow it, what recourse does the guy have?
They knew he needed it all along, it was a mutual decision to go with the more conservative knee scope and see if he could play through it. While agree with you to an extent about not getting the mircrofracture( career threatening, championship aspirations) going to espn and his website was the wrong way to do it. if you're going to have the surgery then tell them, they can't stop you from getting it. But announcing it to the world yourself before the organization was beyond petty.
I definately vote for mcgrady, brooks, scola, and ariza everyday, hope we get mac on the all-star game!! I can't wait until he comes back, hopefully he'll be back on the court by Tuesday or so. GO T-MAC!!
How many doctors did Tracy go through before the last doctor (who initially gave the same feedback as the others) offered Micro-fracture as a last resort? The last doctor gave Tracy an option and that's the route that Tracy took.
microfracture surgery was ALWAYS an option, but not the first choice. as a health professional student, clinicians always have to provide options to the patient and usually they would recommend the "least" intensive therapy. microfracture always carries the risk of ending your career, and i'm sure the rockets did not want mcgrady to have that surgery if he doesn't have to. but only tracy knew how much pain he was in. regardless of whether he rehabbed hard or not, the doctors said he should get "better" the more he played on the knee. that NEVER happened. tracy never saw an improvement. it improved only when he rested, but not when he played. the only other rational choice is to go to the last resort: microfracture. and fortunately, he looks to be for the better. i've never seen him make a quick step-back move dribbling the ball behind his back for 2+ years now.
Sorry you had that experience, you know even the nicest players in the NBA can have days where they will blow off a fan, I actually heard tmac is pretty cool about signing autographs but even Battier has ignored fans trying to get his attention. They just get so much attention everywhere they go it's hard to satisfy 100 percent of the fans they have. As a fan of the game and as of the team, I usually do not go out of my way to get autographs or talk to the players for this reason, I have had a chance to talk to some of the players but they were all during organized events where the purpose of them being there was to meet fans.
You mean if he's met the clutchfans who've been commenting on the Rockets for 10 years on this board and hold the Rockets to higher standards than having good stats. When we go to a Rockets game, we remember to look up at the rafters to know why we are here and we care what's on the front of the jerseys not what kind of shoes they wear.
it only took Hakeem his 2nd year to take the Rockets to the NBA Finals. it's taken 'a while' for the Rockets to make it past the 1st round in this Tmac era. Sorry we got ripped off, we thought it said "KOBE" on the package, but it says "TMAC" on it.

That would be awesome, but my last theory about him being ready and the organization playing possum was danged wrong. DD
Yes! This reminds me of when Vince Young came out last year and made that statement which went against everything he had said in the past. Oh yea, then he blew it at the very end, but it was certainly a much needed show of being a team player.
Yeah, finally T-Mac has a great outlook, but let's face it the team is sniffing him from coming back.
Wow, what a douche, great to hear pretty much all our assumptions of him proven even off the court. How lame is that really? You make almost $24 mill a year and can't sign something for a big fan of yours that will take nothing. Makes sense now why he hasn't won anything, the so called "Basketball Gods" are gonna make sure he wins nothing no matter where he ends up. Loser.
