poseyman— I don't think it has anything to do with pessimism in this case — more about guarding your optimism. A lot of us here, myself included, have direct experience with back problems. A disc problem is not something you cure as much as it is something you manage. I fully expect Tracy to say what he says, to be positive, and to have a great season next year, and just MAYBE finish his career here with no more problems; but to buy off on that being a 100% certainty is a bit unrealistic. In reality, it does no good to dwell on it, however. We just have to trust he's doing everything possible to take care of this and move on from there. However, it's only natural to be concerned when the fate of this entire team seems to hang on the health of one bulging disc.
TMac seems to me to be a pretty straight-forward and honest sort, a heart-on-his sleeve type of person. He was very open about his physical and emotional condition last year. I have no reason to believe that at least he thinks he's completely healthy. And that's a good thing. Then he can go out and play with confidence. I think the coaches and trainers just need to figure out a way to keep him that way through the season. Also, I'm not surprised that he's not overly enthused by the supporting cast. (Again, Tracy being honest). I'm sure he's never even seen Novak or VSpan play. So hopefully CD and the scouts have done their job.
lets just hope for the best... but expect the worst for both Yao and Tmac... I just hope both come back 100% before they start playing again... no pain no gain.... only works in some situations...
Yet those same people cleave to Bob Sura and continue to add him to their fantasy lineups like white on rice
No DD, you are NOT pissin' in the wind. I always wait for your replies because I get SO sick of all the negative/pessimistic opinions on this supposedly fan site. Hmmm... sometimes I feel this is more a basketball site than a Houston Rockets Fan site. Oh well.... RR
I think if healthy the rox will have a great year but the year for us to win it will be the year after when we get one more peice. i believe we will be on of the top 4 teams in the west. i think san antonio is on the decline and the two teams to knock off are the mavs and suns.
Hope he can recover 100%!! if both TMAC and YAO are healthy, we can mke the plyoff, second round at least!
I have had back surgery myself, with 2 titanium screws to hold it together, and I have to admit that it takes a real effort to not apply my own horrific recovery experiences, and on-going back pain, to someone like Tracy. We aren't in his shoes. I really, REALLY hope he's right, and his back is 100%. PLEASE let this be true! See? I'm trying to be optimistic.
I'm totally sympathetic with all of you that have had back problems. That being said, it doesn't make you any kind of authority on McGrady's back. Especially those of you that have had surgery. That automatically puts you in an incomparable situation. I realize T-Mac is probably talking up his health a bit to sell season tickets, but that doesn't mean we need a bunch of invalid opinions on the state of his back. McGrady's specific problem is no more relevent to the problems I've been hearing about than the broken little toe I suffered in the 8th grade is.
ill start to believe tracy when we start playing again. hope everything turns out okay with both our stars. what im equally interested in is if novak, vspan or JLIII have productive years or not. snyder as well.
If you're referring to me, you should read my post first, lol. I'm not applying my own experience to McGrady. It takes an effort not to, but I'm not. Having said that, back problems are extremely tricky. Partly because of the experiences I've had, I've come in contact with a whole lot of people with different back conditions. All could agree that every individual condition is different from someone else, and that comparisons are very, very hard to make. The other thing most people I've come into contact with who've had back problems is that when you think you're "cured," it's time to cross all your appendages for luck. That's what I'm hoping for, and we are overdue. Luck, and a great season from McGrady.
something that van gundy mentioned earlier in the breakfast, was that most importantly with tracy, even when his back feels completely pain-free, he hopes that he continues to do the rehab and takes care of it the same as if he was in pain. let's all hope that even though he feels great, and i do believe that he actually feels 100%, he's still following directions and taking care of himself to prevent any re-injury.
