you always talk about loyalty and representing his hometown, like you're proud of being a Houstonion. but you don't even root for the Texans who actually represent Houston. why? b/c the Texans haven't been good? i guess if the Titans win the Super Bowl, Houston can hoist the trophy as their own.
He was in this identical scenario this time a year ago... if they had won their last game, the Titans would've been in the playoffs. What happened? Oops, I forgot... it's only a big game if the Titans win and Vince plays well.
Funny to hear all the smack from teams looking up, some never even sniffing a playoff. Look at the Giants reaciton last week if just making the playoffs isn't an accomplishment, or the Browns faces after knowing they may have lost the right to a 1st round exit. Top 12 out of 32 isn't bad. I don't get it either, Cat has always taken these extreme positions in response to others views more than carrying about his own teams actions or crediting opponents on their merits. I mean I like to joke about Reggie Bush's suckitude as much as anybody, but I can draw the line between sarcasim, talking crap, and an engaging debate. By the way did you Vince-haters show up when he was the best player on the field the week before and was the major reason the Titans stayed in the playoff chase despite a lackluster defensive effort versus the hapless Chiefs? Yes VY hasn't been good this year nor nearly as impactfull as last year, a very rare rookie-of-the-year year for a QB. But he isn't a bad 2nd year quarterback considering the (lack of) offensive talent around him and his team plays like a team. His defense got his back last week, no question, and multiple occasions this year, but he got their's lots of times since week 5 of last year including the week before last. But you haters willl keep grasping as you watch your favorite teams (Texans, Denver, etc) sit are their butts after next week and who started their "who are we gonna draft in 2008 threads" weeks ago.
"[All the criticism] is like a remix now. It used to be an original song, but now people are finding new ways to say the same old stuff about me." --Vince Young
He didn't credit his team for a specific win. He said he "led them" to the playoffs. Hakeem Olajuwon led the Rockets to two titles - does that mean people give him credit for every single win over the two year stretch You had to really reach for that one.
I'm not sure but that post doesn't even MENTION Vince Young, so I have no idea how one might conclude that the post you quoted was suggesting Vince Young, as opposed to the defense, was most responsible for the game last week. If you read otherwise, you need some serious reading comprehension classes.
Bizarre. Your statement was about what "decent" QBs & offenses should or shouldn't do against the Jets. It appears you actually meant to say "And no decent offense or quarterback should score 10 points at home against such a team, except if he has a bad game, in which case it's still a decent offense & QB since it's an anomoly"? Weird statement to make, but OK.
You're still failing to acknowledge the difference between 30 mile per hour winds and snow and a calm day in Nashville. But OK. Also, I didn't feel I had to mention the context of the Patriots and Titans seasons to explain why one would be more concerned about the Titans' lack of offensive output in such a game. It seems incredibly obvious that such an output from the Patriots is an extreme outlier among their standard performances and likely due to either horrible luck or an extreme variable (weather), whereas with the Titans it's part of a telling trend. I guess I underestimated the Vince Young homerism component, though. I won't next time.
Are you seriously trying to say that the value of team wins to the perceived value of a quarterback is even remotely comparable to the value of team wins to the perceived value of a basketball center? I think you're the one reaching here.
LOL. We've essentially had two debates this season. In this one and related threads, you're talking smack on behalf of a quarterback with a low 60s rating and mediocre rushing numbers as though he's a primary cog in an offensive machine and that anyone who doubts him is "grasping" at straws. In our other debate, you concluded (in an extreme minority position) that the Colts were better than the Patriots despite the Patriots coming from behind to dominate the final quarter and win in Indianapolis. And somehow I'm the one taking the extreme positions?!?
I touched on it earlier, but the Titans were in this identical scenario during their final week a season ago. Had they beaten the Patriots (a team with very little to play for), Tennessee would've been in. Vince in that game: 15-36, 227 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, lost fumble; 2 carries for 29 yards. Titans routed by 17 and score only 16 offensive points. Yup, Vince is at his best when the stage is at its biggest... except when he's not, then the homers sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn't exist.
Ive mentioned it before. Jay Cutler clearly looks like the best QB in the draft. You dont have to make excuses for him, he is playing very well. Imagine if the Titans had drafted Cutler, they could be scary with that defense and running game complementing his passing.
You can change it to any star of any team in any sport. Pick Romo. When people say he led his team to a 13-2 record, are people crediting him with the win in the Buffalo game? Your original attempt to correlate someone saying VY led his team to 1 win of the playoffs to saying that he was responsible for a particular win is nonsense.
