I totally agree. Life-long fans will get much higher highs from the winning. But at the same time, the bandwagoner didn't suffer years and years of disappointment. Which is better? I'm not really sure.

Almost, but not quite. It was:

Vince Young + $8MM in salary cap room to sign other players

    OR

    David Carr and Mario Williams

The problems with Carr are two-fold. He both sucks and he's paid an absurd amount.

I agree completely. I don't care if Jesus Christ is playing running back for the Titans and Buddah is the hotshot qb throwing to John Lennon at wide reciever. It is physically impossible to root for a team with Bud Adams at the helm. I hope Vince Young gets demolished on Sunday.

    Right

Why don't you just petition to have the game moved over to the Astrodome. There is no such thing anymore as a Houston Oiler, so your living in a delusional reality.

Bruce Smith was the #1 overall pick. Reggie White was #4 in a supplemental draft (not sure how that ranks) and Julius Peppers was #2 overall. Peppers would probably go #1 if the Texans had to do it over. Irving Fryar went #1 in the 1984 draft. I'll take White over Fryar.

Point is, it doesn't make sense to say "never draft a DL first" just because you happened to want a QB this year.

I just don't believe in drafting D-lineman at the number 1 pick, UNLESS that players is a freak...ala Bruce Smith.

Mario Williams is no Bruce Smith.....

Plus you have the most dynamic QB in college football history coming out...and he is a home town boy, how the hades do you screw that up?

And yet the ******* has a job with CBS Sports, as the resident GM? Funny, I havent heard him make any analyses of the Texans this year so far. Wow, isnt that a surprise!

I mean the first time he talks about them, Shannon Sharpe, being quick witted as he is, should serve a BIG FAT bone in his mouth and make him choke on it. THAT would be poetic justice! :p

Well, I have been a diehard Astros fan since the Colt 45's days. I grew up listening to them on a portable radio I'd sneak under the covers at night. My first live pro football game was an Oiler game my uncle took me to at Jeppensen Stadium (now Robertson Stadium) and went to their games at Rice Stadium before they moved into the Astrodome. The Rockets? Been with them ever since their days at Hofheinz Pavilion (basketball is my first love). I may have moved away from Houston but I will always root for Houston teams because all Houston teams are a part of who I am. I would like nothing more than to have Bob McNair's team stick it to ol' Bottom Line Bud's band of mercenaries come Sunday. (In fact I'd put it up there with making it with twins! :) )

But you raise an interesting point because I actually feel the same about the Texans. Maybe it's because of the way the Oilers left and broke my heart or because of the way Bud Adams finally pissed me off or perhaps because of Bob McNair who is 1000 times the owner that Bud Adams was but I have been on board with these guys from the start. And I don't intend to stop just because of a few bad games or players. Sunday's game may well end up as a defining moment in this team's young history. It will be interesting to see how much the Force will be with the young Jedi Vince...

I respect your opinion. Disagree with it, but I do respect it.

I just cant ever root for Bud's team NEVER! I mean I would go so far as put in my will, that my offspring, next of kin can be fans of other teams except the Titans, even the Cowboys but, if they become Titan fans, I will disinherit them. I know that sounds extreme but, that's how strong my feelings are about BUD! I will never forgive him or accept any apology for what he did to the City of Houston. Dont try blaming this on then Mayor McNair. It was MORE than just one incident. Bud made his feelings well known long before the moving of the franchise to hillbilly land.

Until that Fat b*stard does us all a favor and croaks thus, will be the sum of my feelings.

To me, this is the Hatfields vs the McCoys, Texas rednecks vs Hillbilly backwards ass country folk. it's a southern, country-ass rivalry that HAS just become white hot. This may become like what the Redskins vs Cowboys once were.

BUCK FUD IN HIS EYE!!! :p

Getting a little too romantic... and skewing the facts.

Bruce Smith was no "freak" during his rookie year.... in fact, Mario is having a very Bruce Smith-like rookie year. (after having a very Bruce Smith-like college career).

If Mario continues on his current Bruce Smith-like pace, you should count your blessings.

Don't be ignorant about any of this... we all know the loyalties start and end with vince... but don't be like ESPN and just toss out generalities that may seem true, but really aren't close to being accurate.

Its pretty easy to claim the Texans have no real ties with Houstonians, and are really "hard to get in to."

But, its also pretty easy to only cheer for a team that wins.

I've always maintained that watching a franchise EVOLVE, and actually sticking by them thru the dark ages, will make the time when they actually WIN that much sweeter.

Nobody here was an Astros fan when they first came as the Colt 45's... nobody here was a Rockets fan when they first moved from San Diego. In many ways, this is a "historic" time to be a Texans fan, but its also an UNFORTUNATE time to be a Texans fan (since there's a chance you won't be around to see them when they're a successful/fully established franchise like the Astros and Rockets are).

I understand fans who are impatient... and aren't willing to even give the effort to get into this team. But, don't be mad at the "bandwagon" label when you magically gain interest after the team shows signs of life... bandwagoning is perfectly natural, and yet it carries the sort of negative connotation that serves as a sort of scarlet letter for sports fans.

When you root against the Texans you make MadMax's son cry; you don't want that? Do you?

I am a Texan fan since the beginning, but I will root for the Titans and in particuar Vince Young, but more just rooting for Carr to do terrible because as a Texan fan, I know that the only way this team can move on and start on a winning path, is for DC to be gone. I can't stand the Titans or Bud Adams, but we need for Vince to embarass Carr this week.

You know that actually happened, right?

I told him before the season started that I would have a hard time rooting against VY, even when they played the Texans.

He got mad...he started crying and screaming and literally said, "Well why don't you just move to Tennessee then, Dad!!!!" And he ran into his room and slammed the door. My wife told me I started a civil war.

The Texans are splitting up father-son bonds!!!! :D :D

Similarly, my nephew and I decided to part ways with the Texans this summer. He picked up the Redskins & I went Chicago Bears since that's were we landed (leagally and with a Visa) when we arrived in America (please pronounce with thick spanish accent). I thought the transition would be easy considering we lived in Chi-town untill i was 8, my sister was born there, I have some relatives there, my kindergaten sweatheart was from there, and my dads boss took us to a Bears game once. Unfortunately, like Al Pacino in GFIII, the Texans "keep pulling me back in." What can I say, like it or not they are a part of Houston. And I love Houston.

....That doesn't mean I can't laugh at thier misfortunes and cheer VY this coming sunday.

Houston is my home team; I root for the Texans.

Hate the Titans. But I have nothing against Young; in fact, it's a little harder to hate him over the rest of the team knowing that he wanted to (and could have) play here.
