I see no problem with bandwagon fans. After all, who am I to tell someone who to root for and how to cheer? However, if you're a true fan and are there for the lowest of the lows, it makes the highs all that much better. If you stick around only for the good times, though, you will never completely bond with the team, and as such, can never reach the highs that true fans experience. If that doesn't concern bandwagoners, then so be it. *shrug* It's their loss.

Really...is that so? Reggie White and Burce Smith wouldn't be worth the number 1 pick? How about Julius Peppers? What we should done is draft Julius Peppers number 1 instead of David Carr. Maybe Kubiak would have done that if he was our coach.

Come on DD, it's one thing to say you should draft VY first in last year's draft. It's another to say you NEVER draft a D-lineman number one.

And besides, I thought LenDale White was going to be a better RB than Reggie Bush???

I just threw up in my mouth.

I just threw up in my mouth and flipped off the screen. I've never disagreed with and despised a post more than this one.

The Oilers were OUR franchise. HOUSTON's team. Every time they retire some OILER's number and honor him in that freaking one-tooth, one-horse, moonshine-swilling backwoods excuse for a "city" I get more pissed off. They never played in freaking Tennessee. Those jerseys, in that beautiful Columbia blue, should be hanging in HOUSTON.

I mean, I followed them and even pulled for them because of the players for a while after they left, but that whole retiring jerseys thing was just the last straw.

Screw Bud Adams, and screw the Titans organization.

I agree with you and Major. I've posted more than once about this whole "true fan" nonsense.

I can't even imagine what would happen if Vince destroyed the Texans with throwback Oilers gear on, while Carr is being yelled at on the sideline by Kubiak after his x fumbles. Not even Bud is evil enough to allow that

Vince will stomp the Texans D. Look at any game where he had something to prove and you'll see what's going to happen.

I wonder why those of you aghast at those of us who aren't diehard Texans fans don't have endless Houston Comets threads. After all, all that matters is that they're from Houston, right?

I'm from Houston so for 14 games a year, my allegiance is not in question. However, for those 2 days we play the Titans, I'm torn. Those of you who think that's wrong, feel free. But don't give me this holier than thou attitude because you are a diehard fan of an organization that's been in existence for around 5 years and never had a winning record and is run by a bunch of monkeys throwing darts.

You are oversimplifying the choice. If it was between Carr and Young, then it may be hard to understand why the choice wasn't Young. But the choice was between:

    Vince Young

    OR

    David Carr AND Mario Williams

This obviously makes the decision much different.

Those were one year incidents. All those teams have been succesful at least for a season in the last five years while continue to be pathetic

Well, I for one am not "aghast" at you if you aren't a "diehard Texans fan" or if you like the Titans. But as far as your question, the answer is as follows: if I'm interested in the SPORT, then my favorite team is Houston's team. The WNBA happens to suck, hard. So, I could care less that it exists or that it has a presence in Houston.

Agreed about the holier-than-thou crap. And, that's not wrong, only different.

My bitter diatribe above was directed not at fans but at the idea of "Luv Ya Blue" being bestowed upon the Nashville Titans, and the horror of that team wearing the Columbia Blue anywhere. It's a little silly of me, because it's only a game. But it is what it is: they stole our franchises' history from us (or Bud did). Bud may have been the owner and had every right to do so, but it feels so wrong. To this day, if I saw a blue oil derrick on the side of a helmet and some columbia blue jerseys or pants I'd instantly get on the edge of my seat to cheer before catching myself.

    Great commericals!

The current Titan uniforms ARE the old Oiler ones. Have you seen them lately? Take away the navy and they're the new Luv Ya Blue.

i hear ya. but how does one adopt a team to start with? how do they become my team??? they can't possibly be the team i grew up with. that's impossible.

we're not talking about people ditching the rockets or astros here. it's just very different.

    That's different for every person.

Start a thread in here asking "How did you get hooked on the _________ (Astros, Rockets, Oilers, Longhorns, Aggies, etc.) ?" and you'll get as many different stories as there are responses to the thread.

How will you adopt the Texans? How will they become your team? Well, they might never. And if they do, it'll be your own unique experience. They had a chance to win you (and about 3.5 million others) over this winter, but didn't take it.

    Exactly. That's my point.

So when I hear people talking about abandoning the Texans to bandwagon another team..it rings hollow for me. What exactly are you abandoning?? Some great allegiance after 5 years of existence?? Please.

How did I get hooked on Astros/Rockets/Oilers/Longhorns??? Because my dad was. Because my grandparents were in love with the 'stros. Because I was born into it. Because it was just part of growing up in my house. Sort of a birthright. The way sports is passed down from generation to generation all across the country.

That ain't gonna happen with the Texans. My 6 year old son loves them. We had season tickets and took him for the first 3 years. He's hooked. They're his. I get that. They will NEVER be like that to me. So this idea that I'm offending the universe because I don't know who I'll root for on Sunday is beyond silly to me. It's based on the notion that I should be a diehard fan of a team that just started playing 5 years ago...when I was 27 years old.

I've said it before I'll say it again...VY is more Houston to me than the Texans are.

Not for me it doesn't you get rid of one guy who is terrible and one guy who could be a stud defensive lineman for the best athlete to play the QB postion in the history of the NFL.....

Yep, still pretty easy for me.

    Vince.

    Me, too.

Not me, but I understand. I hope the Texans kill the Titans on Sunday, but I expect them instead to get brutalized pretty badly.

...the Texans didn't share that opinion. The vast majority of people employed by NFL franchises didn't share that opinion. As such, it is a strawman and not valid.

You didn't know that and still don't! Way to judge a decision in hindsight. No logic whatsoever.

How many of those guys were the number one pick?

I am just saying my philosophy, if someone is obviously incredible you adjust your philosophy.

That being said, Mario Williams was not that incredible in college he had more than a few games where he played uninspired football.

I would take a Stud QB or RB, over a Stud DL any day of the week. You are talking about guys that have the ball in their hands a lot and can seriously impact the game.

As for White, I still think he could be a better pro RB than Bush...but right now, neither one of them is starting at RB...which is amazing...no?

I'm not one to tell people who they should root for and why (unless your an ex-Oilers fan rooting for the Titans :p), but it seems that if my kid was hooked, it would hook me. Like I said, that's just me.

My opinion is not a strawman opinion, it is based upon years of knowledge...these GMs that thought that Carr was good, who are they exactly? The GMs of teams that want to face him every year? Yeah, you will get a straight up answer from them for sure.

Judge a decision in hindsight, WTF are you smoking? Go back and read my posts, I have ALWAYS said take Vince Young...ALWAYS...from day one...and guess what...I was FRICKEN RIGHT !!!!!
