    In Tennessee.

Houston is *not* among the worst in America concerning sport fans. The guy's from Houston; if people want to root for this HOMETOWN guy, it's their business.

How about you and me cheer hard for our Texans and just let this other crap go?

    you answered your own question.
people liked that houston team that was onced called the oilers.
and still root for that team.

oh, so rooting for the titans to win cause a houston kid is a qb is wrong, but rooting for the team last year to TANK so you can draft Reggie Bush is right?

also, the texans appeared in 2002. the University of Texas Football started in 1893. Hmmmm I wonder who has more established fans?

What about earning respect from the fans? instead of blindly rooting for teams? how about putting a team out there that people are proud of watching?
lets root for Enron since its a Houston corporation right?

earn respect and the fans would love you. maybe we're just wierd people since we like Vince Young cause he is awesome and he's from Htown .

That statement is both inaccurate and unfair.

    it's neither.

they closed off considering any QB in the draft when they made the decision to extend David Carr. period. the end.

    It's both.

Not 'period'. Not 'the end'. You're acting like DC was the only motivation on their draft selection.

Repeat this after me: "QB was *not* the Texans' greatest problem the past four years."

I'm not saying you have to agree with the decision, but to say it was a choice only between VY and DC and the Texans snubbed VY solely based on DC is more than inaccurate and unfair--it's also absurd.

There was more to it than that, your statement far oversimplified the issue and vilifies the organization unreasonably. Now, I *get it* that that's how it felt to you and to a large percentage of Houstonians, but the way you interpret it has nothing whatsoever to do with their original motive.

they extended DC. their call. thereby cutting off even considering QB's in the draft. that's it.

with the #1 pick...when your team is 2-freaking14...you don't worry about drafting for need. you take the best available talent on the board. because you have need everywhere, anyway.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong here, but wasn't it Bob McNair himself that told Vince's mom at the draft that if they didn't already have David they would have drafted Vince?

Oh so hate on Mattress Mack too, he likes Vince. Everyone who is a Texans fan should return their furniture now cause Mattress Mack is a Vince Young fan.

McIngvale speaks as both a fan and a corporate sponsor. Asked if the Texans' choosing Bush will impact his future business relationship with the team, he replied: "It darn sure ain't going to help it. I'm a marketing guy. I think Vince would be over the top for them. I don't want to go through another year like last year when I basically threw my money away.

"I'm obligated for a couple more years, and I'm big on fulfilling my commitment. But ongoing I've got to take a look at it because regardless of the football implications, (drafting Young) would at least double the value of my sponsorship overnight."

He's done more for the city of Houston than any of you haters.

    http://www.freeenterpriseland.com/BOOK/MATTRESSMAC.html

Every Christmas, he gives away households of furniture to needy families. For several years, he was high bidder for the grand champion animals raised by high school students at the Houston Livestock Show (spending close to a million dollars each year). The money went for awarding college scholarships. Jim gives several hundred speeches a year to almost any group that asks—telling his inspiring story of going from rags to riches. He built a practice facility for the Houston Rockets basketball team (which also receives visits from many NBA players who play in pick-up games during the off-season.) and is known as the Rockets number one fan.

McIngvale goes to bat for Houston coach

Gallery Furniture owner and sports junkie Jim McIngvale has always kept a high profile in Houston, and he’s now injected himself into the controversy surrounding a $100,000 fine levied against Jeff Van Gundy, coach of the NBA’s Houston Rockets.

McIngvale, whose store has been a Rockets sponsor in the past, told a Houston TV station he would pay Van Gundy’s fine, which was issued by the league after the coach publicly accused NBA referees of unfairly targeting Yao Ming, the Rockets’ 7-6 center.

NBA Commissioner David Stern hit Van Gundy with the fine – believed to be the largest ever assessed for public criticism of the league’s thin-skinned officials – and even hinted he might not be allowed to continue coaching.

McIngvale rushed to Van Gundy’s defense, telling Houston station KRIV that he’s willing to pay the fine “because I just admire him for standing up for his employees.”

“I’ve got the $100,000 and I’m ready to pay it. I like coach Van Gundy because he does the right thing whether it’s popular of not,” he continued. “I’m ready to pay it because he stood up for his employees. I think it’s great.”

Since the TV interview, his comments have been picked up by the Associated Press wire service and the story has been widely published by a number of newspapers and Internet sites.

McIngvale, who also owns Houston’s Westside Tennis Club and several thoroughbred race horses, said if the league office didn’t approve of his offer, he would simply ask Van Gundy to make a promotional appearance at his store and pay him $100,000 for showing up.

    Go get ‘em Mac!

All I said was rooting for the Titans TO WIN was wrong. Screw all the VY stuff, you are rooting for Bud Adam's team. Because of him, they retired Warren Moon's jersey in Tennessee. He didn't play one single game for that city, and that is where his jersey will be hanging, not down here in Houston. I don't know about everybody else, but I'm not forgiving Bud Adams for taking away all the history that could have happened with our Oilers.

    Go Texans.

That's *not* it. Why did they extend DC? Because they thought he was better than VY, or because (for the 100 zillionth freaking time) QB was not their worst problem.

I understand that point of view, but I don't agree and neither do several NFL teams. Some follow that philosophy and some don't. It's obvious the Texans did not, but you're wanting to turn the decision into some VY/DC only thing as if that were the only factor in the whole of the freaking draft, and it's inaccurate. And unfair. And absurd.

Again, you don't have to agree with the Texans' decision, but you're grossly mischaracterizing it.

You said, "I was watching VY play here in Houston before the Texans even existed. I was in the Dome watching him pick defenses apart before Reliant Stadium was finished. I watched him put a team on his back to win a national championship for this state. And then watched him beg to be drafted by the Houston franchise after he came out early. The Texans decided having David Carr was more important."

I say "the Texans decided having DC was more important in the face of poor VY begging to come" is BS. Many people disagree with the logic followed, but the decision was NOT "it's more important to lock up DC; let's pass on VY." (that is an unbelieveably stupid thing to believe). The decision was more akin to, "VY looks like he might be an incredible quarterback, but our whole team sucks hard. We need defensive help and help on both lines a lot more than we need a QB."

Yah. And as such, (100 zillion-and-oneth time) QB was not their worst problem.
