Wow; you misunderstood my post from top to bottom. Just wow--totally whiffed on the point; swing and a miss.
No, I understood it fine. You called it a strawman opinion, which is ANYONE'S opinion on here, and you said it was judged in hindsight, and I have been consistenly saying the same thing since before the draft, hardly hindsigt. And, IMHO, I would not have taken Bruce Smith with the first pick either..... Just my opinion. DD
amen! you basically summed it up perfectly... the texans suck, they have no personality, and on top of that they're incredibly boring to watch. exactly how is this a winning combination??? sure you got fans like swoly who will root for them regardless of howing insanely boring and mediocre they are, but for the majority of fans it requires at least some degree of entertainment... and the texans provide next to nothing in that regard. no face of the franchise (carr aint it), no tradition or history, poorly played and boring football, and mistake after mistake in personnel moves... you have to give the fans something to attach themselves to, especially when the nfl is as expensive as it is. there.
Agreed. That's just the nature of the beast. It is simply unreasonable to expect blind, undying loyalty to a team with such a short history and a bad one at that. Look, the Texans can't have it both ways. If they want to act as a one way monopoly who believes that their consumers (fans) living in the Houston area have no choice but to accept their "product" regardless of its quality, then they need to wake up to the realities of the Internet, cable & satellite TV which make it possible for football fans to follow and support teams that are not located in their geographic area. If they want their product to be considered as entertainment, then they have to accept the reality that their customer base will evaluate their purchasing decision based on their perceptions of the value represented by said product. And right now, the Texans offer terrible value for the entertainment dollar because quite frankly, their product sucks big time.
I'll be rooting for the HOUSTON TEXANS. UT isn't the college team I root for though so I don't have ties to Vince Young or any reason to root for the Titans. Four years in Nashville didn't make me root for the Titans and I won't root for them now. Go Texans!
so simply put, since you weren't "born" into the Texans, you can't enjoy their good times either. you don't feel anything for them now. we shouldn't expect you to be celebrating when they finally start winning?
i was celebrating when they've won previous games. i never said i don't feel anything for them. the very fact i'm frustrated means i care something about them. i'm certainly not ambivalent. if you had actually read my post, you would know i said i don't feel for them as strongly as i do the rockets or astros...not that i don't root for them at all. read my post again and see if you actually can find something that's in it that you disagree with, without making up something to ascribe to me.
I did not say "strawman opinion". I'm not sure there is such a thing. I just failed to communicate effectively what I meant, and now I don't feel like it. So, mea culpa.
i'm just as fustrated as you about the Texans, if not more so. and these "Go Titans b/c of VY" posts and threads just add fuel to the fire. if i came off as putting words in your mouth, my bad. if you were a fan of the Texans, but now root for them to lose just b/c they didn't draft of VY (i know that's not really the sole reason), well, with all due respect...may a bird poop on your head (of course, that's just a euphemism for something else).
i was a season ticket holder the first 3 years. i have no idea how i'll feel when they take the field on Sunday. i know i have a real hard time rooting against VY, though. he's completely changed the way i feel about the Titans, for sure.
When's David Carr day? http://www.houstontx.gov/mayor/gallery/vinceyoung.html TEXT OF PROCLAMATION Texas pride rose to a new level after the University of Texas won the 2006 Rose Bowl game and the National Collegiate Championship. But Houston pride rose even higher when our very own Vince Young led them to that victory. Vince Young has been celebrated by many, and was recently proclaimed by former NFL safety Ronnie Lott to be “the greatest quarterback to ever play college football.” Born in Houston in 1983, Vince Young learned how to overcome obstacles at a very early age. He was only seven years old when he was struck and injured by a car while riding his bicycle in the street, causing him to be hospitalized for several months. Tougher from the experience, Vince Young went on to greatness. He was named Parade's and Student Sports' National Player of the Year while playing starting quarterback for Madison High School, honored as one of three finalists for the 2005 Heisman Trophy, and became the first and only player in NCAA I-A history to pass for 2,500 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season. Vince Young is a tremendous football player for the Texas Longhorns, but he is also a tremendous person. He volunteers much of his time at schools and in youth programs, helping and mentoring children of all ages. Vince Young is an inspiration to all Houstonians, both young and old. Therefore, I, Bill White, Mayor of the City of Houston, hereby proclaim January 10, 2006, as Vince Young Day in Houston, Texas.
It's about time I put him on ignore. It's idiots like him that are making me this close to wishing ill on Vince Young, just to shut him the **** up.
i appologize for being more entertaining, creative, and knowledable than you, so i'll try to be boring.. but its too hard. i'm too strong. i owe clutchfans my best. im stuntin while you're gruntin!
RM95 and Meowgi might as well avoid about 99% of the media/people if thats going to be their approach of denying the inevitable
