Everyone knows which QB I thought was the best in the draft (woho, how 'bout that Cutler/Leinart matchup last night), but I'll admit that it is way too early to say if Vince will be a bust or not. I thought he was the least NFL ready of the 3 main qbs in the draft, so not a surprise that he hasn't been great yet. It'll take time to develop him and good coaching to make the best use of his skills. In other words, I don't think it is a surprise that he hasn't been fantastic yet... I'm sure the Titans knew it'd take some time to develop Vince.
Heard Roydell dropped a couple of passes. Watching the highlights now, that was a nice throw by Vince on the td pass.
Yes, we certainly do.... On the topic of Vince... people didn't want to allow Cutler to use the excuse of not winning because he didn't have talent around him... so I guess that can't be used with Vince now either (oh and mateo, I think Earl Bennett may be the next real deal at Vandy...maybe I'll make it to homecoming to see a game (hmm Ludacris will be there that weekend too, interesting).
You must mean Jay Cutler = John Elway.... considering he is in Denver and all.. I'm sure that was just a typo though.
mateo.. it could get ugly, but we have tended to not get blown out in recent years..and although we lost Cutler... the overall talent of the team has improved greatly in the last few years.. so I think it might be closer than what the spread is.. but beating the spread isn't exactly a victory
I'm curious from Vince fans.... Would you rather him be thrown into the fire this year... or given time to learn the system, etc.. before he plays much?
I think he needs to learn the system, but needs to get some action this year. And then split time next year, and then by year 3 he should be incredible. DD
The "Zone" and nashville sports radio spots have callers crying for a do-over already...many are in love with Cutler- so early...
They will be the one's cheering as he leads them to multiple division titles and probably championships. DD
if a mature Michael Vick can lead Atlanta to the NFC Champioinship, you know what Vince Young will bring..
It is too early to call Vince a bust, but it isn't too early to realize that Cutler has the skills, arm, etc. that many people missed out on around the nation because they had never seen him play.. and they just figured a Vanderbilt QB couldn't have the stronger arm, etc. Now people are finally seeing him play.. that hadn't ever seen him.
But we already know that I think he'll be the best pro. I actually think all 3 qbs have a chance to do very well. As long as people are patient and realize it may take 3 years for Vince. Also I think they will have to realize that he probably isn't going to be able to run all over defenses in the same ways he did in college (most players don't), but stil has a chance to use his speed and athletic ability to do well. We'll see what a few years of coaching does for him... working on his throws, etc. It may take 3 years or he may pick it up quicker.... and learn the system pretty well this year. Don't know.. at this point none of us really know much... after one preseason. Vince my pick it up this year and be pretty good by next year.
VY is the man. ______ Young dazzles in Titans' final preseason tuneup A sure sign of poise from a rookie quarterback: Vince Young even lobbies for instant-replay calls like a veteran. Young was impressive in his first exhibition start for the Tennessee Titans, consistently turning third downs into first downs in a 35-21 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Friday afternoon. Young's lone touchdown pass came on a successful replay challenge by the Titans in the first quarter, but Young had an apparent touchdown called back on a replay challenge by the Packers in the third quarter. "That was a touchdown as well," Young said. "They just robbed me." "I pretty much knew that I was going to feel a little more comfortable this week as well," Young said. "So I wanted to keep the chains moving on third down, and (score) when I'm in the ball game." And move the chains he did. The third overall pick in the draft went 5-for-6 on third down for four first-down conversions and a 16-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Wade in the first quarter. link
if you actually watched the game, you would have seen he was pretty good, but like I wrote earlier, the packers defense is horrible. and just to compare to what we've seen from carr, he looked very poised. all the complaints about carr, what you want to see from him, you see from vince. and this is not a the texans should have drafted vince post. just making a comparison. he went through his reads, he was poised, and he through the ball down field. actually, all three first round rookies have looked incredibly poised.
