He only had 1 season with the Titans before they drafted VY in 2006, 2005 was a rebuilding season for the Titans as they cut alot of high priced players and went with a youth movement.

Chow turned down the UCLA head coaching job in December. He even said himself this firing was a total surprise.

Falcons hired new GM Tom Dimitroff, which dampens the prospect of Carroll having complete player personnel control. Tom Dimitroff also was reportedly asked to provide the Falcons a list of prospective head coaches when he was interviewed, and Carroll wasn't on that list.

I'm kinda surprised myself. I wouldn't totally be shocked if this wasn't Bud Adams sticking his nose in business he knows nothing about. Chow does have a rep. for developing QB's, but it's hard to say that he had the weapons he needed for his offense to succeed.

Anyway, I'll be curious to see who they can find as a replacement OC. I would've liked to see Chow get one more year. If things don't work then, you know VY and Chow would start taking some serious heat. But, until they get some skill position players, everyone can take some blame....

The Titans offense, especially Vince, was so awful this year they had to do something and hold someone accountable. Vince wasn't going to be cut. They made the playoffs so Fisher wasn't going anywhere. Right or wrong, it had to fall on Chow. This is not a big surprise to me.

Next year, Vince had better improve a lot because the excuses are getting old. I can already hear people saying he needs time to adjust to a new OC. To some, he can do no wrong.

And to more than a fair share around here, he can do no right.

VY was hardly "awful" this year with anyone with a fair mind of actually witnessing Titans games, their offense, and seeing what he had to work with. He wasn't great, and probably "very good" less than than half the games, but he wasn't that offense's weakest link or anything close to it.

And again, he improved his completed % from 52 to 62% and his yards per attempt went up. He showed some progress, and some slippage (more TOs, less TDs throwing and running). Nothing unusual nor unpextected for a 2nd year guy drafted by a team that was THE WORST TEAM in the league over a 2.3 year stretch before he took over. The Titans haven't helped things (in the short term) offensively either letting their top receivers and running backs leave year after year over a 3 year stretch.

I suspect they will get to work on adding playmakers at WR, TE, RB. If they get them and the passing and overall offense doesn't improve, than it can fall primarily on VY.

This is not a scapegoat move. Get real. Jeff Fischer is the most secure coach in the league.

When you have one of the worst QB's in the league production wise, somebody has to take the fall.

Wow they fired a guy who produced two back to back Heisman winning QBs at USC. Come on his work alone at BYU should be enough to earn the land top job at a major university. Like Pete Caroll, he isn't cut out to coach in the NFL cause he is much better at developing young talent and pocket presence QBs.

    very good?

he made some plays, but he was still far from very good.

still. he wasnt the weakest link, sure but he sure wasnt their strongest either.

bottom line for the titans. They had a very good running game and a crap passing game. Who's to blame? i dont know. but that's the truth

I only saw a few of his games. I've looked at his full year stats. In my book, Vince was awful. I never said the Titans offense didn't have other problems. But I saw him make a so many bad throws I lost count. Probably his lack of judgment surprised me the most.

I'm a huge fan of his and it bothers me that so many people here seem like they want him to fail. People will blast me for this but I want the Titans to win simply because Vince is on their team. But I view him with a critical eye just like any other NFL player and I have serious doubts about his development into a good NFL QB.

People who criticize Vince Young on his abilities as a QB fail to realize this guy was never meant to be a pocket QB. At Texas he ran the spread option which basically allowed the freedom and mobility to run around the field making plays with his feet first. Nobody wants him to become a Mike Vick run first type at the NFL level but you have to design an offense that heavily employs the bootleg and some kind of zone read option. You can't expect VY to sit in the pocket and become the next Tom Brady all of a sudden. Titans need to move him around and design specific plays to help him pass on the fly instead of sitting like a duck out there. Look at his numbers and his completion percentage in college when he makes the throw while on the move.

UT dumbed down their offense for Vincent's pea-brain. In the NFL, that doesn't work. When your QB is running in the NFL, he gets hurt.

    Next question.

Those of you who didn't follow the team the whole season don't know that Titans fans have been calling for Chow's head the whole year. His playcalling is horrible and he tries to fit players into a particular system instead of playing with who he has.

Then again, reading through most of your comments I wouldn't really expect any of you to care.

Also: There is a large area between God and Awful. Some of you need to realize that. Vince's stats this year are comparable to MANY good QB's in their first two seasons. Yes, even the TD-INT stat. Get some perspective, guys.

This was the smart move, the only move, and the right move.

Norm Chow's offense doesn't work for VY - at least not at his current stage in development.

Norm Chow is also an overrated "QB guru" whose coaching style doesn't mesh with pros... he belongs in college - just like Spurrier, Carroll, et al.

    Good riddance.
