The mentions of Hyde Park reminded me of Speakers' Corner in the park, which is full of people on their (often literal) soapboxes orating about whatever topic they want--politics, religion, whatever. The good speakers draw sizable crowds and get into it with them. It's a lot of fun. Sunday should be the busiest day.
London is actually (overall) worse than the North of England for South Asian. As a general the authenticity tends to rise as you go up. Even into Scotland. Edinburgh and Glasgow have amazing Indian and Pakistani. London curry is too dominated by Bangladeshis serving bland takes on "Indian". Somebody mentioned an Oyster card - get a travel card on the Oyster (7 days, 14 days, etc) otherwise it is pay as you go and pricier. If you don't think it will be worth it you can also do the same pay as you go rate with any contactless credit card. Works for the bus, tube, DLR, Nat Rail, Overground, whatever. Also, don't get a tube app. Get the Citymapper app- it is far superior. Also works in Paris. Oh - Covent Garden is good for kids. Lots of street performers for comedy, magic, acrobatics, etc. the Transportation Museum is also there which wins a ton of awards for kids.
Never went, but 5 of the 6 other flatmates did. They were into pot, big time. I recall one guy breaking his glass bong so he could scrape out the resin.
Oooh, love London. If you are into plays check out the Globe theater - Shakespear's theater. If you are interested in War gear and history - check out the Imperial War Museum Probably should do the big ferris wheel - and try to get off the beaten path to some small villages, and get some pub food. Oh oh oh, got to get some Indian food there a great place for a curry. DD
Has anyone done this? http://www.northcoast500.com/ i am hearing great things about it but its going to take up a chunk of our 10 days.
