i work at a chinese restaurant as a cashier and it sucks not getting tips. i know cashiers dont do much when it comes to the ideal service but i have to take calls and help package orders. i use to not tip for pick ups or to go but will probably do now. in general, i think only people who've had those jobs will always want to tip.
Pizza drivers get paid per hour (at least minimum wage), plus per delivery, and get gas money. It's a nice stress-free gig for a student or youngster. Papa and Hut have the best driver pay. Domino's screws their drivers in comparison.
I'll tip when picking up, but not as much as dine-in. I usually tip the Sonic car hoppers when I have cash.
depends but on fast food like In-N-Out and all I never tip other like mom n pop places thats not really a sit down restaurant but I usually will get take out from I'll tip usually a dollar if I pay by card (my total cost is usually like 8-9 bucks at these places after tax and tip) or I leave whatever change I get back if paying by cash. also I am a firm believer in tipping for good service NOT because its expected. I have no issues leaving a 20-25% tip if the service was great and I have no issues leaving little to no tip at all if the service was really crappy (unless there was some extreme circumstances like where the entire restaurant is packed etc)
Also what about cafetria style mediterranean such as Shwarma King or Veranda on Hwy 6 which is quickly becoming one my favorites? Should I tip or not?
really? how do the ladies who make your food get to see that you're a big tipper since the person ringing you up is someone else?
I heard somewhere that the people who work at the to-go/take-out window in a lot of places like chili's or applebee's are actually waiters who get stuck there as the crappy shift. So they're making less than minimum wage AND they aren't getting tipped by anyone. That seriously sucks if that's true.
I'm pretty sure it's usually the hosts that handle that, but I could be wrong. I waited tables for a few years, and I always tip well to servers or delivery people (or if I'm sitting at the sushi bar), but for fast food or take-out? Nah.
I tip at sit-down restaurants where I am served. I get kind of irritated that it's even a line item for pickup and very, very rarely leave a tip in that situation. I will make an exception if it's one of my favorites (the cuban restaurant around the corner that makes the bad ass pork sandwiches or the family-owned gelato store close by).
Tipping at a fast food place is illogical. It's FAST FOOD. It doesn't take much effort to make a burger. It also doesn't take much effort to make french fries.
I've specifically asked this question at many places. I used to handle take out as the bartender at a seafood restaurant and bar. I rarely got tipped. And since our beers were cheap, I made much less in tips than the waitresses. Makes sense I suppose: guy behind the bar, hot girls on the floor. So, many places do like my old job, just add it to the bartender's duty. CPK specifically has one person handle take-out and curb-side orders. They're normally a waiter/waitress, but when on take-out duty, they get paid minimum wage and have told me they sometimes get tips, but none that I have talked to really expect it, which was my attitude too.

This is why most places with bars and people working the phones/take-out have a tip share. The waitresses have to kick back part of their tips to the bartender, etc.
Don't tip for take out, unless they actual bring the food to my car. Never heard of anyone tipping for fast food before.
Here's what I've being told as far as tipping, if you go to a restaurant more than twice a month for takeout, always tip.
I don't tip for "fast food" but if its like a friday's or chili's or pappasitos, I usually give 10%....they didn't wait on me, but they prepared the to go order and usually give a little love...
