Yes, I've been going to Luby's for thirty years without needing their staff to ask me if I need a refill. It's a cafeteria!
Yeah, I don't know why these people hate America. Wyatt's used to be a good cafeteria too but I guess they closed down. They even closed down that Luby's in Town and Country. They had really good food and all the customers were ancient so it was always a nice quiet place.
Luby's used to be good back in the day (early 90's). We would take my grandmother there every Tuesday. I used to look forward to that meal. I went to the one off Belfort at 610, and it was a disaster. Food wasn't impressive and the staff was all rude & ghetto.
my grandparents live in Killeen/Ft. Hood (grandfather is retired from the service.) Lubys used to be where my grandparents liked to eat when we came to visit them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luby%27s_massacre I was four years old at the time. Still went back there to eat.
I had no idea Luby's was so frowned upon.... I happen to like their fish and chicken fried steak.... and found their macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes to be - while not amazing or particularly delicious - quite comforting...
Deckard took it as I intended him too. It was a joke, lighten up. I have actually been defending the Luby's staff so I don't know what you are talking about.
Unlike you who is aware that your posts on this board are like a steady stream of diarrhea but post anyway. Props to you man. Go back to trippin over tippin.
The why complain about tipping low paid workers. Being as old (an hopefully finanically adjusted), self aware and grounded as you pretend to be, one would think you'd be above fretting over petty things like tipping people for good service. You have been going there for some time and know the deal.
I don't mind eating at Luby's. They have a new modern one near where I live and it's not bad at all. It's not fine dining, but I know that going in. I'd rather eat at Luby's than McDonalds or Burger King. If they provide good service, I will leave a little tip just to be nice, and to let them know I appreciate the effort. And I like their coconut cream pie.
I don't tip in places that have self service. IMO tipping is reserved for when I go to a restaurant and receive service from a waiter whose income depends on tips. At a place like lubys I'm pretty sure the workers are paid normal salary and the tips are just a bonus ( you can correct me if i am wrong ) so it's different than tipping a waiter who makes 2.50 an hours and relies on tips. And IDGAF if people think i'm cheap it's my money.
We can't bust heads like we used to. But we have our ways. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt. Which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Gimme five bees for a quarter, you'd say. Now where was I... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...
