This! I am done tipping the lady at my donut shop for a donuts and milk that's $5 bucks......at first, I felt guilty but not anymore. At least she is nice enough to not give me the old "feel free to tip", she just flips the ipad and we don't mention the t word
Count me as another who feels that the tipping culture in this country has gotten out of hand. I tip servers/waiters and my barber and that is about it. Yes, if I order delivery (which is very rare), I will tip the driver. But I am NOT going to tip people for doing inane things like putting packs of ketchup in my take out order or anything like that. Going to Jersey Mike's and seeing them make my sandwich (which is their job) and then have to give them a tip for that? Yea, right... Yes, COVID caused a lot of this and I did have sympathy for restaurants but like a lot of other things in life, it doesn't take long for something like that to get abused and misused.
Think if you set an app up to display the tip percentage based on satisfaction on your phone so it was visible to your server during your visit it would help or just help more spit get into your food?
Online orders that I'm picking up I'll typically toss on a buck hoping it's enough for them to save the spit for the next order. In person counter orders unless they toss in something extra or something I don't tip.
Now when you go get a sandwich at Subway there are tip options! Im thinking, this dude who just spent 2 minutes making my sandwich who also has a very crappy attitude now expects me to tip 20 percent on top of an overpriced mediocre sandwich? Ridiculous I always take care of bartenders/servers very well. Even when there are issues or mistakes. But at Subway??
I went to taqueria del sol and got charged forcefully 20% gratuity at the register and then the receipt asked for a tip. How many people am I tipping here for a torta de milanesa and quesadilla kids meals.
only seen this once so far and will never go back to this restaurant myself - but about 3 months ago I went to Yolk (chain breakfast spot) and it was the first time I had gone there in maybe two years but now they charge 3% to sit and eat at the restaurant. It wasnt a standard party of 6 gratuity or anything but to eat there and while 3% isnt much - I wouldnt be surprised if it creeps up to 4% and then 5%. So now I am supposed to subsidize their rent too? Isn't that part of the reason why I am dining to eat there to pay for food which then helps pay for rent and salaries?
