Yes, they said JFK couldn't win because he was Catholic. Heck, they said he couldn't win because he was too young and inexperienced. Jack Kennedy proved the pundits wrong. It was close... damn, it was close, but he pulled it out. Obama can win. I truly believe he can win, and to hell with race, creed, or color.

Time for America to move past that artificial "barrier." Vote for the man or the woman and what they stand for. The rest are the remnants of terrible chapters of our history. Chapters we need to close, at last. Once and for all.

I don't see his Chances being overly greater than Hillary's
by and Large. . it will take some MAJOR work for the Republicans to win again
I serious think a Ham Sandwich could get elected against the republicans
because people are tired of it
    but
then again . . .The Democrats do somehow manage to pull Defeat from the Jaws
    of Victory

You have to be careful. If he runs too soon and loses, he might not get another chance.

I think he should wait another 4 or 8 years. Right when he is entering his political prime.

Hope sells. That was the mystique of Kennedy.

    and

Freshness can be unassailable. One can argue lack of experience but one cannot attack a record if there is not one there.

I think the US would have elected Colin Powell if he had chosen to run.

I think fastest way American Democracy could regain international credibilty is to install a new regime, with a black man with a funny name at the helm. It would be shocking to all who those see the US as a traditional government with an entrenched power structure. It could inspire a new wave of democracy around the world.

I think Obama's million dollar smile, strong family roots, obvious intellectual abilities and oratorical skills would win over middle America and I think they would be proud of themselves for overcoming petty prejudice.

As a conservative who generally votes Republican, I see Barack Obama as intriguing. He has done nothing so far that would make me not want to vote for him, but also nothing to make me want to vote for him. He is very much a centrist and carries himself like a statesman. He is a Christian who lives his faith. Those are definitely positives.

As far as him being more qualified than Bush, I question that. Bush had an excellent record as governor. It's easy to cloud the memory of him with the absolute failures of his successor or his job in the White House, but going in, his record was great. Now, I know that Junior Senator from Illinois is a more important job than Governor of Texas, but Obama hasn't done enough as Senator to establish a record.

The reason why I'm leary of Obama: He seems to be the hand-picked guy of the Democratic leadership. The Democratic leadership couldn't be further from my ideals. While I see Obama as a centrist, the fact that he has been pushed from every angle as the next great thing out of the Democratic party makes me wonder whether he is going to be beholden to the party line. I will reserve judgment, still.

My choice for next President is without question Giuliani. If the Republicans decide that McCain is the best choice, they've lost my vote. The Democrats best chance for getting my vote is with Evan Bayh. But I wouldn't rule out a vote for Barack Obama.

To all who took such great offense to me asking what was meant by "well spoken," ask yourself when the last time that was said about anyone not a minority.

You guys know that I don't define myself in terms of race. However, every time I'm told by a Democrat that I should vote for a certain minority candidate the number one reason is always because they're "well spoken."

I did read the next two sentences so thank you for that. The problem is he's trying to talk up Barack Obama, a very promising politician, and the first thing that comes to mind to distinguish him is that he's well-spoken. Forgive me if I expect the party that claims to be for the advancement of minorities to not describe all of their minority candidates in the same manner.

George Bush is not "well spoken; ya' know, uh.

As much as Bush was elected because Clinton was embarrasing to the people,
I think Obama could be elected because Bush is embarrassing. Hey I'm a Texan, I wish our squinty eyed cowboy could express the ideals of the nation, not just be a talking points parrot that can't even do that well.
    (Condi is Secretary parrot too)

I understand what he's saying, trust me. I just think it's a sort of back-handed compliment to give.

Reminds me of Chris Rock's take on Colin Powell.

When asked about Powell, white people say "he speaks so well" and "damn he's well spoken." Is that a compliment? The man is f'in educated. That's what you say about r****ded people. What's he supposed to speak like? "Damn Iz gonna be presodent."

I think his inexperience in Washington just makes him seem unsullied, especially with the political scandals that are currently taking place on the Hill. I think he could play that up as his advantage.

what was Bush's track record as governor? No Child Left Behind - the worst educational program ever created?

Let's not forget that Bush has never been successful at anything he has done.
