That might work if he is willing to take less money but Artest might create trouble if things don't go his way which would leave us with only Scola at the 4 and no one to help McGrady out.
I do not agree... Battier would have been much more effective offensively with Yao in the line-up(wouldn't all of the Rox..), but unless we get someone like Artest where there would be no drop off in the D, he should stay. He still is one of the best at doing all the little things that no one notices and while his 1 on 1 D has declined, his BB IQ and team D is still top notch. I love seeing his him take charge after charge after charge.
I love his effort on d. But ... this team would benefit much more from a more versatile offensive player. Particularly one that can handle the ball and attack the basket as well as shoot the 3. Battier's current value + expiring contracts + late round draft picks = enough assetts for a Battier upgrade w/o having to give up all that much. I think it'll be much easier finding a Battier upgrade than an Alston one.
Battier wouldn't net you anything good enough by himself (unless you're Memphis, may be). He's the type of player you include in a package deal and can get you something solid in return. I wouldn't trade him just to trade him, but I would wait for a good deal to come along first because, whether you admit it or not, he's the third most valuable player on this team, and neither Yao nor McGrady are going anywhere, I think management has made that pretty clear by now. They will ride out the Yao-McGrady experiment 'til the end (i.e. when McGrady's contract is up in two years). So you hold on to Battier until THE right move comes along, something that will truly put us over the top. But absolutely, he's still a valuable piece, whether or not he continues to disappear in the playoffs is immaterial to the fact that he's a valuable player that some teams would like to have, they just won't give up a great player for him and him alone.
Keep Landry, I wouldnt do battier + landry for artest. If the Kings give us their first round pick,I would do it. I highly doubt they will cause they have a lottery pick.
1 star! He was injured. He still played well, great considering that He was injured. Great shooter, great defender, size, plays 3 positions, reasonable contract, tons of heart... this thread gets none more of my time.
Hopefully Morey actually watched the series and sees beyond your numbers, which meant nothing for most of the playoffs.
There comes trade boys again... Shane Batteer value to this team is far greater than a lot of fans give credit for. I normally compare Bruce Bowen game to Shane's game. Someone mentioned Bowen is way better player than Shane. I don't know where they base that from. Kobe is the best perimeter player in the league go back and see what he averages against us and against Spurs. Also, do you have an idea how many points Bowen averaged in the series against the Suns? Yet spurs fans never utter trade remarks against their best perimeter defender. Someone suggested that Shane can't guard pgs, but no one has ever seen Shane defend pgs. As a matter of fact if you ask me, the best way to utilize Shane against Utah is to put Shane on Derron Williams, Rafa on Brewer and Tmac on Kirilenko. This team is gonna be fine with addition of a real scorer off the bench. I understand Maggette has spoken against coming from the bench a season or two ago, but if we can talk to him on accepting that status we will be playing June bball fellas provided we stay health. For those trade boys still live in Houston., you may find company in Dallas and Phoenix
I think some people are missing the point here. Shane Battier is a good player. He plays tenacious defense, can knock down corner 3's, and hustles like nobodies business but that's just it. He does everything any SF should be able to do (except rebound). We need more offensively and we can stand to lose something on defense. Other than Tmac and Yao he has the biggest trade value and we can stand to lose what he does because other players on our team do those same things so well. Its not a knock on Battier he just can't provide what we need most.
Yes I would trade Battier. He is getting older and with the way he plays you have to ask yourself if his body will hold up. Battier is good but nothing close to great. If you can get a good trade for some youth and athleticism then I think the Rockets have to take it. Further more...if Sac wants to trade Artest for Battier and Landry then you have to take it. I love Landry and his upside but you can't fall in love with your own players so much that you are un-willing to make a trade to make the team better. I fall in the same corner as Gator on this one. Battier may be good but he is definitely overrated on this board.
unless you get a bruce bowen type of player in return for him, i don't believe shane is going anywhere anytime soon. PLUS he makes our franchise look better with having him on our team. who else do expect to guard kobe and lebron and those type players.
I can't believe this thread is getting so much support. You replace Battier with Mike Miller or Jason Terry or any of the other guys mentioned (except maybe Artest), then there is no 22 game winning streak. You guys are seriously underestimating his value. We were seriously outmatched in the playoffs. This was due to injuries, not personnel. We don't need to shop anybody. Let's try and go into next season with a similar personnel, I promise you what we have is a terrific one.
Bruce Bowen??!?!??! WTF?!?!? lol dude Battier's defense is loads better than Bruce Kickin' Bowen. He plays dirty then shakes his hands in the air like he never did anything.
I think trading him would basically be admitting that "it was time" and the time has passed. I hope we can get at least anohter shot next year. Although if a good trade comes up his value as of right now is highest ever. After the arm highlights on sportscenter, everyone likes him.
