Damn Rookie think about what your saying... Yes there are times he is a liability on the floor. But that is not on defense. If we trade Battier, who will be guarding the 1st option on the opposing team? You think T-mac will then your in for a big surprise because T-mac D is just average.

Forcing Tmac to play hard D will make him get tired in 2 quarters, and he will be drained and will score like a point in the second half.

    I would move him too.

But keep these things in mind:

Currently he's the only consistent 3pt shooter in the starting lineup. Replacing him should bring back someone who also shares that quality, or would require a change at the PG position for a player who's a consistent 3pt shooter.

So we trade for Mike Miller, we become a HIGH scoring team with no defense:

    Yao
    Scola/Landry
    Miller
    T-Mac
    Alston

We could alternatively trade for Artest and also solidify our 3pt shooting at the PG spot.

Someone llike Mike Bobby, Luke Ridnour, Kirk Hinrich or Mo Williams. In that mold, to be able to hit 3's and open up the offense.

I would love to have Artest on this team. I can't imagine he'll stay with the Kings.

But again, we'll need to restructure the PG position if we bring him in.

we are not complaining about his defense. We all know he's a great defense player. He's not a great rebounder or offensive player. Right now our problem is our offense. We don't have great offensive player when T mac or Yao goes down. we need to upgrade our offense because Adelman system is built on offense. We need a complete player not liability on one side of the court.

sometimes, you have to trade some defense for some offense if your team really needs that offense. and since their is no scale that tells us how much battier's d means to us, and tells us how much "player" can bring us out of our offensive slump.

and mcgrady is a great defender, he was known for defense out of toronto, but then, he kinds of coast on defense, thus you can see his habits during the first three games of the series. not putting hands up on brewer, not fighting through picks. etc.

All I'm gonna say is if you trade him, you better get someone that can play some d in return. Because right now TMac isn't going to take the tough assignments on a night in night out basis. We just thought we'd seen someone whine and complain about how hurt or tired they were. If TMac took those assignments he'd only play about 50 games a year.

If its a trade for Shane because his offense isnt that great, then Artest is really
the way to go since he plays defense and would be a great 3rd scorer as well. Miller is a nice help on the offensive end but thats it. Otherwise keep Shane he fits here.

I won't be opposed to trading Battier, if it can net us a starting caliber point guard. That way McGrady can go to his natural position and not be worried about play-making for this team 24/7. Maybe then he will have the energy to play both sides of the ball.

i just don't think it's a good idea to make those kind of huge moves this summer. with a healthy yao the team could've easily finished 1st in the west.

of course it's fun to speculate... so i'll play along:

    TRADE #1:
shane for calderon or ford - clears up thier PG situation while filling a need on the wing.

    TRADE #2:
shane for barbosa - kerr wants a tougher defensive minded team. shaq/amare/shane/bell would be pretty hard to score against.

    TRADE #3:
shane for outlaw & pryzbilla - blocks, steals, on ball defense, 3's; outlaw gives you everything shane does in younger more athletic body. pryzbilla replaces retiring deke.

He makes shots when he's open on offense. That's all you need.

He is an All-star on defense. 50 % of basketball is defense.

We have top-5 talent at their positions at the 5 & 2. C'mon now...don't think so hard you get stupid...

Unless we are getting a Ron Artest in return, I guarantee you that this teams defense will go from top 5 in the league to the middle pack. Shane's foot wasn't right all series long. He was limping and hobbling. I was surprised he played as much as he did.

Exactly. Short of getting Artest back (which would mean better 1on1 coverage while losing some team defense IQ) we would lose too much. We need a defensive stopper within the team system. Battier is also far more effective when he has both Yao and T-mac to operate with.

I wouldn't trade battier for the sake of chemistry. He is a great guy on and off court and everyone in the rockets love him. He hustles, he works, he plays the game.

what if we could pull off a calderon/jamario moon deal for battier and head would you do it. Jose is a free agent would be nice if we could work a nice sign and trade with them. We would need to throw in a draft pick to sweeten the deal more then likely
