This makes no sense. So you just want us to play 4 on 5 on offense? No one's saying they want someone who can score at will in his place, but for god's it's important to have five "capable" offensive players on the floor, especially in an Adelman type of offense where movement and slashing is a big deal. This isn't an isolation offense where everyone goes one-on-one. It's about moving the ball and getting easy shots. For that type of offense how does it not matter when one guy in there is completely useless and only serves to stunt the offense?

All you need is someone with a little bit of athleticism in there who can slash to the basket, finish inside, and keep their defender honest. Is that too much too ask? Battier does none of these things. His defender lags off of him, and in the rare occasion where he does slash it ends up being a turnover or an awkward attempt at a layup that never results in points. Look no further than Buddinger to see how a good slashing SF can work. He's getting tons of easy baskets. Unfortunately, we can't start him because the Brooks, Martin, Buddinger wing defense would be too weak.

I even feel this way even when Battier is hitting his three decently. If he's not even doing that then he's seriously limiting our offensive productivity.

Would be different if it were a win, but a loss he can complain all he wants.

Battier is the reason we lost!!! He didn't stop Shannon Brown from going off in the 4th quarter!!! It's a sure sign that Battier has declined!!! I know he was on the bench, but a good defender could have stopped him from the bench!!!

I'm not complaining about this game at all, I was merely responding to a post rehashing the nonsensical "Battier can just be invisible on one side of the floor" argument.

Read and enjoyed this when it came out and it swayed me a bit as well. But the article was written in February of 09. 2 seasons ago. It was completely relevant then, and has become completely irrelevant now.

Battier is NOT the same player he was during the 08 - 09 season.

See, Shannon Brown could do all that. And Battier being such a more hyped player could do none of that.

You just made my entire point: if Battier was on the floor when we were up 18, we were NOT having a stretch of not scoring. When BudinGer and Lee were on the floor, we WERE having stretches of not scoring.

Your team can't go +9 with you on the floor if your team is having a stretch of not scoring. We were up when Shane went out in the second half, we were down when he came back in. We went back up after that. You don't have to put the ball in the hoop to help your team score points.

I totally agree. Another reason why we lost was turnovers, 20 Turnovers to the lakers 12 Turnovers. Ball movement changed when Yao started demanding the ball. A lot of picked off passes by the lakers.

    Yes.

Unfortunately now, he is this teams weak link.

He made dumb decisions and played horrible defense on everybody not named Kobe.

Chase is due up and Shane should be coming off the bench.

Battier, should be on the Coaching Staff. Previously Battier, was a stopper and a scorer, now Battier only has his limited trade value.
Morey needs to make a deal with you know who! :p

he is 32, it is the natural process of aging, he will progressively get worse

same with Scola, this is probably his last productive year, and his contract will soon become untradable

disagree...Scola's has no athleticism as it is. What he does have is balance, agility, coordination, footwork, post moves, savviness, touch...I could keep going, but you get the picture. These are all things that Battier has never had, so I don't see how they are even comparable.

I think we keep battier in the starting line up, we need bud off the bench for the scoring punch when brooks or martin are taking a breather. Battier can still known down open 3s, many nights he doesn't but it's also not as if he's going 1-10 from downtown every night and chucking up shots. It's funny, when battier missed a game last season and we lost, everyone was talking about how valuable battier was and our defense was suffering without him, when he's in the game everyone complaining about how we lost because of him.

I always thought Battier was best served as a 6th or 7th man. Especially when we had Artest. But we shouldn't rush budinger in.
