1 more steal or 1 more point than tonights results would have been nice. Maybe two more assists. Lets see? Thats one less basket 2 points, one more point three points, 2 more assists on threes thats 9 points. Nope he still has to get at least 4 more points also somewhere.

    Thats a line of

    7 points
    3 assists
    1 stl
    1blk

Pretty mediocre production I am asking out of him. Thats pretty much what he used to be capable of though. Not too much to ask and the game is tied. Yep there you go. All Shane has to do is average above numbers and we win all three games. Well at least two of them. This is his current averages.

    4.5 points
    3.5 asts
    0 stl
    1blk

Pretty much he doubles his scoring and stls output and i will feel satisfied in the next game. See I made it simple. Easy to attain. :)

This is what I want out of Shane:

    • Shoot a high percentage on threes. That's his main responsibility on offense -- hit the wide open shots when he gets them. He's not asked to do a whole lot on offense, so I want him to be a knock down shooter for us. At the least, 38%.
    • If he's being guarded by a smaller player, he should attack the offensive glass and look to post up more.
    • Good entry passes to Yao. Get the ball to him without a turnover.
    • Solid defense against other team's stars. Force them into contested jumpers, and prevent them from drawing a lot of fouls.
    • Give me 1 charge per game, 1 blocked shot per game, and 1 transition stop per game.

If Shane can do all of that regularly, then I'll be satisfied. After that, I'll leave it to coach to decide whether he should continue to start or come off the bench. I really don't care all that much about that, to be honest.

Shane was BAD tonight on both ends oof the court. I never bought into the notion that he is no longer an elite defender, but he isn't. He looked bad out there

Name one starting SF in the league that's slower than Shane Battier.

Name one person in the NBA as tall as Shane that grabs less rebounds.

    Peja Stojakovic - ???

    Chris Webber - Luis Scola
    Mike Bibby - Aaron Brooks
    Doug Christie - Courtney Lee
Bobby Jackson - Kyle Lowry (it's a small stretch)
Vlade Divac - Yao Ming (this makes up for Scola not being as good as Webber)
    Hedo Turkoglu - Chase Budinger
    Scott Pollard - Brad Miller

I suggest we trade Kevin Martin and Shane Battier for any all-star caliber SF.

I watched the game last night. He did not play well, too much of a disappearing act (I was surprised when I checked the boxscore and saw he played 30 minutes). But I don't think he was the reason for our loss. The main reasons from my point of view were terrible point guard play (both from Brooks and Lowry), clumsy finishing (especially Miller and Hayes) and, most of all, just horrible defense. People seemed to be confused about their roles.

    LMAO.

Scola cant guard Al and he goes off for 28.
Rockets have like 20 turnovers, one by battier.
Lowry takes 7 shots. Misses them all.
    CLee plays only 13 mins.
Rockets shot 3 of 19 from three, 1 of 7 for Martin.

Yeah, it's ALL battier's fault. He's too stupid to ask the refs for an extra 6 fouls for Brooks, so he doesnt get into foul trouble. Too stupid not to ask Chauncey to go easy on Aaron. Battier also failed to get into Martin's mind and control his 3 point shots.

    It all makes sense now!!

You forgot add failed to score any meaningful points. Make any meaningful stops. Failed to make any meaningful steals, 3's, freethrows, minutes, stats, plays. Thats alot of fail RV6. :p

The only thing i will conceed is that eventually. Eventually. Battier will make enough plays in a few wins to say i told you so for about two or three games to continue this silly argument of the no stats, no defense, no offense allstar.

Hi : D New poster. However, I was reading this thread, and just can't notice some complaints that just don't make sense to me.

Our defensive efficiency is 30th. We're giving up 112.4 in 3 (a rather small sample size, don't you think?) and we want to replace Battier for Bud? Even attempting to look in any perspective, that just doesn't make sense for me at all. Has Battier lost a step? Absolutely. Is his defense so horrendously atrocious that we're going to replace him with Budinger? We'd probably get let up even more so then we are right now.

No? "But everyone Battier has been guarding has scored more then 25+ points a game!" you say. Think who he's been guarding. Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, and a Monta Ellis playing a man possessed. You are asking him to guard the most talented scorers in the league. That is no small feat to guard. I guarantee you, place the best wing defender on any of them, they will light you up.

"But Bud can score!" you say. Yes, he can, and he's very good at that. But do really expect Budinger's offense to offset his (to put the term nicely) mediocre defense? Yes, Battier is not as solid of a defender as he used to be. Yes, you could do a lot worse then an aging Battier.

Battier's shooting slump is troubling, but I expect him to bounce back or snap out of it eventually. Even if he's unable to space the floor as he used to, for a team that's making such great mental errors on defense, give me Battier for now over starting Budinger any day. Budinger will get his chance, but now isn't the time.

Maybe, but I am glad he was there when we took the Lakers to 7 a few years back.

We would have been raped with Rudy Gay.

I loved Battier in that series for the first time ever and even made a video to honor that effort.

But there is no definitive way to say we would have been raped with Rudy Gay. Under a more disciplined team, there is no saying that Rudy would have been the same player.

Lol, this thread has nothing to do with Rudy Gay...stop obsessing, but you do seem to be the emotional type. Speaking of emotions, go ahead and enjoy that moral victory from a few years back. Lakers' fan are enjoying TANGIBLE results and victories i.e. championships.
