You are silly. There may never be another Hakeem. There will be many many Dwight Howards for years to come. And better. Not only better at center but especially through the draft at being a Superstar. The problem is getting one of those picks and players.
I notice some of you only label something terrible or unnecessary if you dont like to here about it. You just discredit the topic right off the bat. I think its a valid thread to get over the chase for Dwight Howard.
There are only so many "superstar" players that come along through the right drafts, for every one LeBron, Duncan, Shaq, Hakeem; there are a handfull of Kwame's, Olowakandi's, and Bargnani's. You literally have to have perfect timing and a little bit of luck, the way N.O. did this year. Even if you win the lottery and the next Jordan is coming out, you still have to "win" the lottery. I sure as hell hope so. All these different threads about relativley the same topic is getting pretty maddening.
if the OP wasn't a repeat offender I would brush it off like all the other redundant threads. but regurgitating the same idea over and over again isn't thread worthy simply because its a different day of the week...the quality of thought put into the thread is probably best reflected in the poll options themselves
How exactly is that to "spite the Nets"? They're currently choosing their path to becoming playoff relevent as we speak, it's really their choice as of now. And even if we did it to "spite the Nets" we'd still have a top 5 player in the league, that's not worth anything at all?
Granted thats true. Only partially though. In some drafts you need only get into the top 8 to get one of those guys. We all know someone passes on Jordan. Someone passed on Kobe 12 times, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo was not the top pick, Durant, the list goes on. I think it makes sense to try and get up there and take a few shots when you have a team not competing for the playoffs seriously. Right now I would like to see Moreys plan unfold first.
Wow, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.... thread/ This totally discredits ANY type of argument you attempt to make for any future topic as well, period. WOOOOOWWWWW!
Portland were idiots for not taking MJ. Hell the Rockets were trying to trade for their pick just to pair him with Akeem. Kobe was passed on 12 times because the ONLY team he would play for was the Lakers and the Hornets learned that the hard way. Oden was selected over Durant again cause Portland management's poor talent level evaluation. Wade was in a deep crop of players that could be considered cornerstones but definitely not superstars i.e. Melo/Bosh. LeBron was the leader of that class and you're saying you would pass on that talent for Wade... even the point you're making how many drafts have been stockpiled with that type of talent.... 2? maybe 3??? Anyone else you can think of off the top of your head? Oh btw Darko Milicic also came out of that stocked draft class at the 2nd pick, sooooo the Pistons are dearly paying for that selection. It's really based on luck and scouting, it really doesn't always fall in the teams favor if they have both. Entire drafts on their own can be total boom or busts.
unfortunately the only way to stink bad enough to compete for one of those top picks would be to completely gut your roster...something trading for Howard would accomplish if he were to walk. we are all fed up with mediocrity. Howard ends that one way or another.
Top of my head? Yeah. Nash, Dirk, Malone, Reggie Miller, Ray Allen, Drexler, anyone not drafted first who went on to be Hall of famers. We would still have to be within striking distance and hope a few teams draft bad. That happened this year too. I guarantee it. Dion Waiters? Come on. Someone drafted below Dion Waiters is gonna be real good. Ross? Another reach I think. I think Jeremy Lamb fell to us partly because of those reaches. However the to guys Thomas Robinson fell to 5. MKG went 2nd Beal later. Nobody knows but to have the best talent we need to be around that area if we cant get one through trades or signings.
Come on Flash. You are making excuses. Dancing around the facts. The facts are good players have been passed on, for whatever reason, in the past. You should have just said this and stopped.
To me, it's a matter of respect, of honoring the memory of our championship teams. If a player doesn't want to wear a Rocket's jersey then the feeling is mutual.
