I'm not saying Head should be promoted to 35 minutes while Rafer gets 20...but there should be more balance. Rafer has been terrible in stretches this year, but so has Head. And they both have shown moments of competency. T-Mac doesn't come through unscathed though. He has been the culprit of many many stupid killer turnovers in big moments of the game, but with TMac, his playmaking ability is a lot higher than that of Rafer's.

We just have to accept the fact that the Rockets don't have a great full-time point guard. Perhaps someone becomes available later this year, but Rafer and Head are who they got. As I've already shown, Van Gundy is essential guaranteeing Head be there in the 4th quarter to close games. T-Mac and Yao are assured spots too. That leaves 2 spots open to close games divided up between Rafer (for small ball), Battier, Snyder, and Hayes. Perhaps Bonzi will be in this mix when he gets playing time.

And so far through 8 games, neither Rafer nor Head has been STELLAR in the 4th in terms of manning the point on offense and defense. They've both made big shots, but T-Mac is the only one who has made big plays consistently in the 4th. Add that to the advantages that I've stated that Head has over Rafer (how slight they are), and JVG sticks with T-Mac as a play maker and Head as the defender of the 1.

We'll see how things continue to play out. I suspect more small ball tonight for Chicago is super quick. I don't know if I like it though. Did you guys notice big ball vs Miami? It was T-Mac at the PG guarding Payton, Snyder at the 2, Battier at the 3, Hayes at the 4, and Yao at the 5. It wasn't a great success, but it was effective. They mixed in zone with that lineup too.

Point is, without going outside the organization, the Rockets are limited with their options, and non of them are great. Each player has his strengths and weaknesses, and is not perfect, but there IS flexability there, and JVG is still feeling his way trying to find the right mix to play the 4th quarter, the right mix to close out and win games.
