    Rocketman,
No matter what you say you now, labeling our rookies as "white stiffs" was still plain ignorance, so stop trying to cover it up and talk about your own racial background because no one really cares.
One thing you also need to address is how you contradicted yourself by saying "mo is a bad defensive player, but hes a decent defensive player" I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to say. Remember: Clarity is a GOOD thing to use when writing posts.

If you continue to use a player's skin color in your future posts, you'll get the judgement you deserve.

    Rocketman,
Could you please explain how being optimistic about the potential of a couple of draft picks equates to acting like conditioned nazis [IMG] Not a very realistic statement on your part.

    Rocketman,

Let me ask you this. You said you don't see the difference between "stiffs" and "white stiffs".

But would you have described someone as, "black stiffs"? "brown stiffs"? "mexican stiffs"? "italian stiffs"?

the ethnicity or race has no association with athletic ability, especially lack thereof, and should not be inferred upon.

On other aspects of your post. Yes, I think that the Rockets could have done better in the draft. Najera has played better so far. Whether he will be a better player than Langhi remains to be seen, however.

Right now, I view Collier as a project. Perhaps he will develop into a solid role-player, or something even greater. Or he might flop. Whatever the case, it will be a while before he comes into his own. I give him at least a year before I decide whether or not he was a complete waste.

Mo will not be a defensive stopper by any means, but he should be an upgrade over KT's defense.

I want Hakeem to flourish. As a ROLE-player.

Rudy T is a great coach.

    that is all.

Good post oeilpere. I agree with you.

Behad, you are exactly right. If we use Rocketman's logic, Langhi was as great as Najera in their last games against the same opponent.

    Rocketman, Rocketman, Rocketman . . . [IMG]

What can I say? The story only illustrated the point I was making and it did so rather well in fact. Your assertions about Langhi and Collier vs Najera are also entirely subjective in reference to only 2 preseason games a piece.

As for "retracting your 'solid stance' on the issue" . . .

    You said:

"I will wait for the judgement call in a few months but I want everyone to step back and say 'Maybe we are being a little too conditioned, why not look at our situation from another angle'."

This does sound like a retraction, until you continue with:

"Hell if we can accept the Rodrick Rhodes blunder lets save ourselves the trouble and brace ourselves for this screw-up."

"Brace ourselves for this screw-up"? Huh? I don't see any words like "maybe" or "if" or "potential" there. I guess that would be a retraction of your retraction. [IMG]

And then go on with this:

"BUT even though I stand by my comments so steadfastly I will continue to support the rookies in everything they do, and when they do succeed in something I will be the first to congradulate them."

"stand by (your) comments so steadfastly"? In other words, you're saying in this last sentence, "even though I know these rookies will suck (i.e. the comments that your standing by steadfastly), I will still cheer for them."

    Well, yippee for Rocketman [IMG]

Look, if you don't agree with my counterarguments, either say you don't agree, or just don't reply, but don't act like you dropped the subject before I answered you.

As for the "white stiffs" quote, I am sure that most people don't think that you personally are a racist, but the use of "white" to describe athletic ability is racist. Let me clarify this, because I am not trying to insult you. Nobody is saying you're a racist; they are saying the comment is racist.

    White Stiffs.

Ok White being the adjective, and stiffs being the noun.

Are they not white. Last I checked white wasnt considered a racist remark. Its not like calling someone a Cracker or the N word. When has anyone heard white used as an attack on someone racially (not any variants like whitey)

Someone explain to me the last time they were called white, and took umbrage to it? Maybe Im just confused.

    Just chill.

    D-shake,
First, I want to apologize in advance for even getting involved. Second, white is not bad. Labeling 2 players as white stiffs is a bit different. It dwells on a stereotype that surfaces around here frequently. To take a label with a negative connotation and then attach the subject's race to it as if it had any relevance is not just racist but boldly racist.

Rocketman, you must be one of those opinionated Arabs - now, don't be too sensitive and insecure. (read R-man's comments above)

maybe he called them "white" stiffs because they are the minority race in the nba.

if he were talking about hockey would he have said "black" stiffs?

or are we just offended because he is conscious (as are some hypocrits in here) of race?

All this stuff about Najera is so ridiculous. This guy is like a glorified David Wood clone. Not very fast, not very skilled, not very strong, not very tall, but he hustles a lot. Najera could not start and be effective on a good team unless he had a dominant presence like Shaq next to him on the floor(a la Chilly Pete/Chucky Brown with Dream in 94-95). The power forwards in the West will eat Najera alive and I don't believe he's quick enough to guard small forwards. This guy is a semi-publicity stunt, a good team guy, fan favorite, hell let's just call him Scottie Brooks Jr. from now on. I seriously doubt that in 5 years we'll be saying DAMN that Najera trade, we coulda been a contenda with that guy. That's getting real on Najera.

As for Langhi, this is the same guy who in the summer games everyone was touting as the sleeper pick for ROY. Now everyone thinks he sucks again after a few pre-season games. Langhi has skills but like any other rookie he'll need time to adjust to the speed of the NBA game. Personally I like Langhi, he fits into what Rudy likes to do with creating matchup problems and spacing so we'll see what happens. I think he'll start the season on the bench but inevitably there will be injuries that will allow Langhi his opportunity to play and show what he can do.
