I do agree that Sooner fans were very courteous, which I found suprising. At the bar, we all stood next to each other and got along well. One guy and I even exchanged numbers to maybe hang out after the game. I was expecting them to act more like mduke. I was shocked. Noone heckled us after the game either.

The difference between OU/Miami and Texas is intangible. Talent wise, I think Texas could look any team in the eye and not back down.

Stoops has Mack by the cajones. Mack needs to nut up.

On the Greg Davis issue: Mack needs to be careful. I think the rich alumni are starting to grow weary of Davis. If Mack doesn't fire him, well, you can finish the sentence.

Then Applewhite would have similar numbers. Simms is not good. That's the problem.

Here is something I don't understand. As a matter of fact, this sounds like a paradox to me:

I have been reading Texas fans saying that they (Greg Davis, Mack Brown, etc.) don't "trust" Chris Simms. I'm not doubting that but if that is the case, then how in the world do you (if you are Chris Simms) have 0 TDs and 15 INTs in the big games? If you are calling conservative plays, it seems like you wouldn't have that many interceptions.

I think Davis sucks as an offensive coordinator, but numbers like that makes me think it is more Simms than his O-Coordinator.

Because if he is going to throw 15 ints with conservative play-calling, I would hate to see how many picks he would throw in a wide-open offense.

Mack was given a 10 year contract prior to the season. He is buddy-buddy with DKR. He isn't going anywhere unfortunately.

Well, in the second quarter they used different running backs, and also did a few underneath routes off of playaction. The running back was still the focus of the offense.

You're lumping the entire defense together. Combined, they were fine, but it was the secondary that continually kept making plays and covering up the mistakes of the front seven. For the entire game, even in the second and third quarters, the OU offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage. They ran it down our throat, we didn't get a lot of pressure on Hybl, and when they didn't run it effectively set up the playaction pass.

Also, that interception-touchdown figure is total garbage. As I've said before, if a baseball pitcher has a 0-14 record, but his ERA is 3.50, I want him. That's kind of the case with Simms. If you look at those 14 interceptions:

    two hail mary's vs. Oregon
one on the missed block, one desperation throw vs. OU 2001
one on the ball off of BJ's hands vs. OU 2002

    He's also had:

    three dropped touchdowns vs. Oregon
a pass that put UT inside the 1 vs. Oregon
a pass that put UT inside the 4 against CU
a pass that put UT inside the 2 against OU 2002, and would've been a TD had Roy not lost his balance
a pass that put UT inside the one foot line against OU 2002

You can point to the 14 figure all you want, but when your teammates let you down, as I have shown above, it's not that logical to give him the blame. His receivers in several instances got stopped short of the endzone by one or two yards. Big ****ing deal. It still ensures a TD, and is basically of the same value.

FWIW, Griffin missed a lot of time in the 2nd Q, with his cramps.

You don't think it's odd that you have to offer explanations for why Simms never comes through in big games?

How it's not, "Well, he played poorly in games A, B, and C, but really well in Y and Z"...?

What an interesting coincidence. Simms never performs well in any of UT's games against teams ranked in the Top Ten-- games in which the stakes are clearly defined-- and we can make repeated exceptions for bad luck and poor play by his teammates.

Don't you think once, just once, he'd have a game against a Top Ten opponent where he didn't throw even one interception? And he'd manage maybe one touchdown pass?

Does Davis coach the defense as well? Holy **** Quentin Griffin had over 200 yards rushing!

The buck stops at DeLoss Dodds and Mack Brown. An AD who would w**** out his wife for money and a poor gameday coach. Brown won't fire Davis. Dodds won't set down an ultimatum. Until Texas has a 4-5 loss season, I don't see anything changing.

I think I'm still going to attend the Big 12 championship game. I wish Co-op sold OU gear so I could use my rebate on a shirt.

Sorry Cat, I have to disagree about the defense. IMO, the offense has and will be the main concern.

The defense did get ripped in the first quarter on that same draw play, Griffin had 100 yards, BUT they only had 3 points. Reese should have corrected the problem much earlier, if we're not even going to be prepared for a play they run at least 10 times. However, once the corrections were made we pretty much shut down their run for the second and third quarters. By the fourth quarter our D had been on the field so damn much since the O was 3 and out most of the time, that they were worn out and deflated. That's just my opinion on the defensive situation.

Now on the offense, it's been said over and over. At first we were calling plays decently, but as soon as Chris got the second interception, it was OVER. We were playing not to lose. Our playcalling became ridiculously predictable and it just got ugly. Offense run the ball 2 times for little yards, short pass on 3rd and we're out.

Damn I hope there are changes made for KSU or else it will be very, very ugly...

No, I don't. As I mentioned, I don't take the TD-INT ratio with much merit when determining a quarterbacks value, so I really don't consider that at all. I look at the reasons that those happen, and if you consider it excuses, there's nothing else I can say.

Tell me what happened versus NC State a few years ago. . . .

    Or K-State later that year. . . .

Or the final ten quarters of that year, including the Big XII championship game . . . .

Or Stanford the following year. . . .

    Or 2000 Oklahoma. . . .

It doesn't matter who the QB is, the result stays the same - our offense sucks it up. And its directly caused by Greg Davis.

Cat, like I said, the problem with defending Simms by tearing down every single interception to the most minute details is that there aren't any games against Top Ten teams where you don't have to do that for him.

I could excuse all of these performances if he had some exceptionally good ones to counterbalance them. Unforunately, all of his best performances have come against mediocre-to-terrible opponents.

I would be willing to cut him slack if he didn't need it every time he plays against a Top Ten opponent.

His best "big game" was against A&M in 2000. We're still waiting to see him duplicate those numbers against as good or better an opponent.

I actually have in my possession an "f the haters" shirt from hornfans.com, because I have been a huge Simms backer from Day One. I am tired of having to defend him though. I think it's high time his performance in a big game reaches an acceptable level instead of a defensible one.

Ugh, I can't believe this, but the shoddy arguing I'm seeing is going to make me sound like an Applewhite cultist just because I cannot stand illogical arguments.

Smokey, who was the QB for the wins over Nebraska? The win over No. 6 A&M in 1998? The Holiday Bowl last year?

It's not just the offensive coordinator. Davis sucks donkey balls, but for whatever reason, Simms doesn't seem to be able to overcome Davis' inherent suckiness. Applewhite had his share of terrible games (KSU, NU in the 1999 conference title game), but he also had terrific games against very good opponents where he was somehow able to ovecome Davis' suckitude.

It's a combo thing. Davis' suckiness plus Simms' poor execution equals OU 2001 and 2002, and Colorado in the Big 12 championship game.

Ricky is gone. Applewhite is gone. Get over it. Simms has not beaten a top-10 opponent in 3.5 years. Simms is a helluva nice guy, but a horrendous QB.

There was this fellow named Williams involved in a few of those games, since we don't have a dominant force on offense like that.

As for the First Nebraska game, yes - he played great. The second Nebraska game - the defense adjusted to our offense by blitzing the ever-loving **** out of us - courtesy of Bill Snyder and K-State, and our offense got crushed. Absolutely slaughtered.

Similar to the Colorado thing last year, Simms torched them in the first game. They adjusted, dropping back 8 men or so in coverage, and he fell apart. once again, the defense adjusted to our offense, and we could not handle it.

Versus any kind of competent defense, our offense has been stymied the past couple of years. We run four predictable run plays, and one of those was the Rocket pitch. We always have. It worked for Williams because he was a ****ing badass - we don't have that anymore.

After a first down incompletion, we play it safe, and either run the ball or throw a micro-route. Safety first. That leaves us in 3rd and long, and that's how turnovers happen.

Yes, Simms didn't execute as well as he should've yesteday - but that doesn't change the fact that at its basic level, as it always has been, our offense is pussified to the extreme.

Change the QB, Change the RB, Change the WRs, it all stays the same. We go into a shell with our playcalling against good opponents, expecially if there's a turnover.
