I am among the ones that do not believe in the BPA stuff until it is a well known commodity like the Dream, Wemby, LBJ....... Obviously they drafted Jabari for height, his perimeter D, and his shooting. There is always some shtick going with it. But I really hate those inconsistent and streaky guys.......the extreme rhythm guys. I would rather have some robot guys like Kawhi or Duncan that you would know what you could get out of them.
yeah, it’s time. This franchise and this city doesn’t deserve this. We can go decision-by-decision and find arguments to defend him for each one. At the end, however, management is judged by the end-result. When you oversee the most shameful period in Rockets history, the individual decisions don’t matter. TIME IS UP!
Evaluating talent is always hit or miss for every NBA FO. Go look at past drafts, no team is immune to missing. That said, this roster is very poorly constructed and that is on Stone. I think this is where his lack of basketball knowledge is a major hinderance. I think it's where folks like Riley and Ainge have a leg up on other FOs.
i really wonder who his father or his sugardaddy was. getting into a GM position for a huge sports club without any exp or knowledge as an accountant? as a simple horny lawyer? something smells fishy. it is like those conspiracy stories like he might've be an alien or an analy probed human by an alien, or his uncle is like from the rothschild family. since nba has turned into wwe theater show with all the circus with wemby draft scandal, anything is possible.
Stone got 2 vets and Ime Udoka is riding them 37 mpg and 35.2 mpg respectively into the ground. Basically no real depth from the bench that can alleviate off the pressure.
It is early in the year and yes he is riding the vets hard. They are trying to be competitive while trying to figure out the rotations that are going to work. He also needs to build synergy amongst the starting unit. 2 main bench clogs are hurt in Tari and Amen and 3 vets they brought in for the bench have underperformed. Jock is rusty and has been injured, Bullock and Holiday were supposed to be sharp shooters. We are 5 games in. I wouldn’t be too concerned with workload just yet. If we are still in the hunt for the play-in near the trade deadline, I expect the Rockets to make a move.
VF is 29 and Brooks is 27. By the end they will be around 34 min a game at most and that is just fine. Dream at age 36 was playing 35 min a game with not nearly the amt of luxury in travel and upkeep players today have.
This thread just prove Stone knows more about being a good GM than people gave him credit for. First of all Rockets rebuild only took 3 years, that is lightning fast for a rebuild most like 5+ years. Secondly Stone hit on his major draft picks. You can argue Jabari is a no Brainer, but Green over Mobley, Sengun, Amen, Tari, Cam these picks aren't consensus picks. Yeah he whiffed on some low picks but he got the big ones right. Third Stone had a stellar free agency, almost all A+. FVV and Brooks are both playing like max players, Green and Holiday are steals. Bollocks and Landale suck but they are on unguaranteed deals next year. Fourth is Ime Udoka. Perfect hiring for the Rockets and a major coup for Fertita. Ben Sullivan too is a magic worker. Majority of this board owes Stone an apology. Can't believe people were saying he is on the hot seat 2 games in really? SMH!
I did not say it cannot be done, I said it was not wise........but now that the Rockets are rolling, you can rest one of them. That was before the Rockets were rolling or in the midst of it. Things change. If everyone buys into the system and it works, everything seems better and elated.
Sorry I misunderstood when you said they were going to be run into the ground. That seemed like a statement about something that is inevitable.
I do think Udoka had a word in roster construction so I have changed my view quite a few times now which I do rarely because in the Silas era everything was stagnant to be fair. I guess, enjoy the show ......
Ime saved Stone's ass. I'm not giving him any credit. Sengun was an Eli Witus pick, Stone tried to bury or replace him for two years. Fred Vanvleet was an Ime pick, Stone tried to get Harden who is now tanking the Clippers. The two best, most impactful players driving the team's current success had nothing to do with Stone, in fact both were IN SPITE of Stone if he had his way.
He did. He wanted Brooks specifically Iirc and Tate was being asked for by other teams but got turned down because Udoka said he is needed. Of course the biggest one Rox chose FVV over Harden because when they met Harden talked about going back to his MVP days by being the system and Udoka noped.
Not so sure just yet but always happy to be wrong when it comes to my teams success. I still think the roster is poorly constructed. Alpi rolled his ankle last night and if he misses any kind of time we could be in trouble. So I'm happy the team has found success but we have no depth because the depth we do have is sub par.
Bump. Some of the worst roster construction I’ve ever seen. No shooting, no spacing, no rim protection. 5 roster spots wasted on unplayable players: Holiday, Tate, Landale, Bullock, Boban. While trying to incorporate two rookies. And I won’t even get into Stone fumbling the #2 pick in the draft. I understand the expectations coming in, they were low initially. But things change when your big man shows he’s a budding superstar carrying us to wins. Why we’re not committed to building around him now is beyond me. We all know this fraud will just sit on his hands until the 11th hour of the deadline while we drop in the standings.
