Well I didn't mean to sound like Portland is in love with him. I'm sure for the right offer they'd move him, but I just don't think we have the pieces to make that offer.
i don't think anyone here really expects the rockets to be able to trade for a brad miller type in order to stay competitive. magloir, p.j. brown, gooden, dampier, nene, frye, lee, darko, dalembert, kurt thomas, randolph, and wilcox are all out of the question. just look at whast the rockets have to offer: 1. juwon and rafer have negative trade value. they are actually worth more to us that to another team. 2. the rockets will need bonzi now more than ever. trading him for a rebounder is a bad idea. 3. bob sura's $3.8M 4. this is the important one, $4.2M TE 5. a future second rounder. ------------------------------ we will, at best, only be able to bring back a player who is only worthy of 18 minutes a game. of course, we will have to play him 30+ minutes per game. my realistic suggestions: 1. melvin ely for TE and second round pick - cats are under the cap so they don't recieve the TE, but they get a pick for a guy they don't need. 2. steven hunter for the TE - the sixers would love to move him for an ending contract, we offer even better. a TE is still tradable next season. 3. brian cook for the TE and a second round pick - the lakers do it for the TE which has move value than cooks ending contract, and of course the pick. cook isn't the shot blocker that the other guys are, but he can put up points. 4. sean may for the TE and our '07 first - i doubt the cats are willing to move him, but if we could get him then i'd jump on it. he is a scorer from the post with a mid-range J. he is a rebounder and shot blocker. this guy is a perfect PF for the rockets.
This was another thing that the Rockets Management-[ Les, Cd and JVG]were aware of during last off season and they were unable or unwilling to do anything about it. Mutombo is one heck of a good chap but is over the hill as an NBA Player and has been since last season. This make four errors in judgement that they made last offseason. a] Not Trading Tracy while his back condition was quiet and recovering. b] Trdading away our Draft Pick and Swift for Battier. Battier is Ok but we shouldn't have lost Gaye in the process. Darn JVG and his hopeless Win Now Senario. c] Not talking Mutombo into retirement with a golden hand shake. d] Blame this on Les. -No change in Coaching- JVG and his win now and damn the future was doomed to failure. Hopefully the new General Manager will have much common sense and will sort all of this out during the next two seasons. All is not lost and we should have a revival of sorts in Feb 2007
That's not going to work. The Wizards are in the same situation as us. Their starting center Etan Thomas is out with a sprained ankle. If they get rid of Haywood, they would have to start James Lang and Calvin Booth.
This is going to be as unpopular as my trade Hayes for David Lee suggestions in the past... PJ Brown for JHo+Hayes. On the Rockets Brown would most definately be the starting option even if Hayes and JHo were on the same roster. Brown's getting scrub minutes at Chi-town but in Houston he'll be back to playing 30+mins. He's even said he'd love to play for Van Gundy. Bulls in return get a young talent in Hayes who's best years are two or three years in front of him but is also contributing now and a hometown guy in Juwan. Juwan and Hayes means depth in their frontcourt which they just don't have and they'll most definately provide Chi with more minutes than Brown has. A perfect fit for both, it's a perfect swap.
Magloire is the guy.....4/5 who can board and Dup. And he's good enough to extend longterm money. I'd have a hard time giving up Luther for him though. It would have to involve a future 1 or something....toss ins....Rfaer,Howard,et al.
so...3 posts from "tinsley" and then 3 quick ones in a thread about who to pick up and he still hasn't mentioned tinsley as a pick up...not blatantly at least. hey y'all...this poster I know! this poster is giving hints. this poster wants you to be spec-u-lating
That'd be a solid pickup. He's pretty unhappy in Chicago, and we know we'd get solid rebounding and a nice defensive presence out of him.
love the analysis- and i totally agree. rafer (spanoulis) head (jl 3) bonzi (hayes) battier (novak- but jvg will def. put padgett in ) howard (deke)
I'd trade Mutombo to a contender for a young vet for the future and pick up an even bigger project from the NBDL. Both bigs. I love Mutombo but he's more valuable to someone else than to us at this point.
The way hayes finshes around the bucket and lack of offensive skill, i would rather get hunter or magloire and play them there. When Yao comes back i would slide them over in Hayes spot and let him come off the bench on certain matchups. He is not a starter in this league.
