Yeah, Tim, I concur. You have to bring back that funk band you guys would have from time to time. There name was Global something-or-other I think. They were hot!
I agree...with the new state of the art sound system there is no need for them...I'm expecting big things from that video system during the intros.
I think they should get rid of Clutch. First of all, the whole "Clutch" obviously came about because of the whole "Clutch City" era of the mid 90's. Well the Rockets are starting a new era and "Clutch City" doesn't exhist anymore. So why have some stupid teddy bear named "Clutch" anymore? I'm not saying fire the dude in the costume, just give him a new identity and costume. It should definely have a "Houston, Texas, Southwest, Space City" tie in. Something like "Robby the Rocket" with a cute little rocket with arms and legs or something like the Astros had back in the 80's with the armadillo. Photoshopers ought to create a new mascot for the kids.
If I want to bring my son to be amused by characters in bear suits, then I would take him to a circus or Astroworld. Why try to entertain children at an NBA game anyway? Besides (and this is just me) I don't know that many people that bring their young children to an NBA game. Baseball yes, but not basketball. For some reason, baseball seems to be a better fit for children than basketball. I don't know what it is. Maybe because baseball has been branded as a family event to attend and it's much cheaper to bring the family to a baseball game than basketball game. I dunno. Well how about something like this? It's stupid, but ties in the Rockets at least.
Ok, Tim. If you not going to get rid of the bear, then get rid of the drummers. I know they were brought in to "rile" up the comatose fans. But please. It's not working. Why can't we have intro song(s) like we used to? I'm mean, we'll probably have a NEW SOUND SYSTEM in the new arena, and we might as well take advantage of that. The drum dance thing you have going with the cheerleaders is stilly too (the whole flashlight crisscross thing in the dark. It looked ok the first time, but now it's boring.). Oh, and let the music be up-to-date. No more out of date music. Let lose! Start playing music that's modern. Something the 14-26 year old crowd can enjoy. POP, HARD ROCK, TECH, or HIP-HOP/R&B. NO COUNTRY MUSIC!!!! If you keep playing to above 34 crowd, you'll never be able to reach the younger generation. Those the ones that get rowdy. And that's what we want. Sorry, but country music doesn't mix well with basketball. Keep that at the rodeo. Want excitement in music? Need a example to follow? Want to know the vibe? Think BET!!! Think X-Games!!! Think MTV!!! Stop letting some 40 year old music director pick the music. Once you let a younger sound-guy pick the music...do this litmus test. Ask Calvin Murphy what he thinks of the music. If he says "it's nothing but noise." Then, we're on to something! P.S. Just because someone is over 40, doesn't mean that they wont like a HEAVY METAL song (POD, Creed, Limp Bizkit) incorporated within a sports environment, even though they might not ever listen to that song on it's own. It's about the atmosphere.
Well, as you know. Out of 16,000 fans, there's 10,000 little kids! (NOT!) So, that's what "Clutch" the bear is for. "For those thousands of children." "We are the world, we are the the children...."
David S, They play a lot of hip hop/ R&B at the comets games. The music is much better at a comets game.
R U CRAZY???? GET RID OF CLUTCH??? WUT THE HELL R YA'LL SMOKIN?? Sorry, hey, I like the bear.....it gets kids interested in the rocks too. I mean, wut betta to get kids attention than to have a big cute bear runnin around the court doin tricks? Clutch is awesome. He gives us all a laugh....u cannot say u haven't at least smiled at wut Clutch does. He's great. Sonique15 President of the KCFC (Keep Clutch Fan Club) Oh yeah, keep turbo too, he's a 5 foot guy that can dunk.
I know. I'm tempted to create a second account so I can log on as a crazy fan and piss and moan about something, too. Sometimes I feel like I'm missing out. And, um, given the the name of our charity foundation is the Clutch City Foundation and that the name of the group operating the arena is Clutch City Sports and Entertainment, and that our high school 3-point competition is the Clutch City Shootout ... sorry, you won't find many in our organization that think the concept of "Clutch City" no longer exists or is no longer relevant. Based on our survey work with fans -- most would agree. Each person is entitled to their opinion. It's just always good to be very careful before you assume you speak for everybody. Research Trivia Bit #1: The average age of fans at a Rockets game is .... 38. The guys who make the song calls in-game are actually quite a bit younger than that. Research Trivia Bit #2: #1 genre for season ticket holders: Classic Rock. #1 genre for mini-plan holders: Modern Rock. #1 genre for individual game ticket buyers: Hip Hop. We typically cover them all during the course of a game, and will continue to do so. Tim
as long as the rockets are winning, i could care less what music they play or what the mascot looks like. geez people.
1....Good advice for quite a few folks around here.. 2.... I am the average age of fans? cool.. 3.....Classic Rock #1? True dat...play more!!! 4....Heavy Metal...POD? Limp Dickit? and Creed? PLEASE! That aint heavy metal...thats crap metal..
Ok, then Metal Church, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Judas Priest... By the way, that's why I said, "Ask Calvin," because if you ask someone that out of touch with todays music, they'll say things like you said..."Todays music is crap/noise." I'm your age too. But I can appreciate todays music.
Now, if you had said that originally...I wouldnt have responded with the bit about crap metal.. Yes, Limp and Creed are alternative hard rock...I agree with that. and contrary to how I sound somtimes, there are a few newer bands I like.. anywho...derailing threads again...I'm incorrigible.
