Yes, and Yao is a center and shoots from 1-5 feet away most of the time. TT is a SF/PF and shoots long 2's and 3p's. So maybe we can compare TT's % vs. the guys on our team who are shooting 3p's right now?
that post makes you look pretty damn stupid. there is a difference between a "shooter" and a "post player"... ...or else you'd be arguing that shaq is one of the best "shooters" in the game.
and you look pretty damn stupid saying shaq actually does anything reminiscent of "shooting".. comparing Yao's shooting to a perimeter shooter's is pretty dumb... but, suggesting Shaq in the same breath as Yao's touch.. is even more ridiculous.. i understand what your point.. but.. really..
I didn't realize that we were going to nuance the word shooter in this thread. Since we are going to nuance, let us continue. Read the thread that Tinman referenced: PF Solution:...Tim Thomas! Juwan Howard has a better Career shooting percentage than Thomas (Tim takes many more 3 pt shots) and that is one of the players that Tinman had Thomas targeted to replace. Juwan is a better offensive rebounder since he tends to play closer to the basket than Tim. So Tinman would have been replacing Juwan with a player that tends to play further from the basket and has a lower shooting percentage. Yes, we could delve deeper and adjust for 3 point shooting by Tim and also adjust for FT attempts by Juwan. Keith Bogans Luther Head Rafer Alston David Wesley take outside shots for the Rockets and Tim Thomas shoots better than them. I will concede that Tim Thomas is a better shooter than the four named above. The combined 2005 - 2006 salaries of Alston, Head, Bogans and Wesley are probably close to the 2005 - 2006 salary of Tim Thomas (probably in the top 10% of 2005 - 2006 NBA salaries). Since the NBA is a business and this BBS is oriiented towards the Houston Rockets (NBA), the only shooter that is comparable to Tim Thomas in both salary and outside shooting is Tracy McGrady. Tracy has a career shooting percentage of .440 and Tim has a career percentage of .443.....very slight push towards Thomas. Tracy McGrady is probably a better offensive rebounder than Thomas, even though Tracy is shorter and thinner than Tim. [Speculation] Tracy gets much more focus from the Defenses of Opposing Teams compared to Tim, yet Thomas shoots only slightly better. If Tim had similar defensive pressure on him over the years, not sure if he would be able to maintain his slight edge in shooting percentage over Tracy. [/Speculation] Summary: Tim Thomas isn't worth the his 2005 - 2006 salary.
thanks einstein. Obviously I have to point out that if the Rockets got Tim Thomas he would be a role player. My comments are directed toward the supporting cast. This is not some stupid Craig Hodges vs Larry Bird 3point contest. Obviously Larry Bird is a franchise player and Hodges is a role player if you can call him that. Why dont you compare the dunks percentages of Turbo vs the Phoenix Gorilla? Tim Thomas is better than our scrubs now. We stink and that's the point. Its not because of Yao or Tmac. We have no shooters. Vernon Maxwell could outshoot any one of our role players with one hand while the other hand he could shoot his 9mm at some punks at Dennys. Skip To My Lou is the description of the ball when hits the iron when it is jacked up.
Rule of thumb: Shooters go to PHX, their percentage goes up, shooters come to Rox, their percentage goes down.
Please correct me if I am wrong - but didn't Thomas get bought out by the Bulls and now he is making a fresh deal with whomever - in other words the Suns are not paying him anywhere near his original deal but probably much closer to the Vet minimum? http://www.sanluisobispo.com/mld/sanluisobispo/sports/basketball/13993009.htm CHICAGO - Tim Thomas was waived by the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, clearing the way for the forward to possibly sign with a playoff contender. Acquired from New York in the Eddy Curry trade in early October, Thomas never fit in with the Bulls. He averaged 4.3 points and 1.3 rebounds playing 10.7 minutes per game in three appearances, complained about his role and got sent home by the organization. Thomas needed to be released by the end of Wednesday in order to be eligible to play in the postseason for another team. The Bulls were unable to trade Thomas, earning approximately $14 million in the final year of his contract, before last week's deadline. Thomas has averaged 11.9 points and 4.0 rebounds since and here are some quotes from the Suns-Clips game: http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/14110131.htm THOMAS SHINES The Suns were energized by Tim Thomas (11 points) who made a spectacular driving dunk that earned a raucous ovation from what had been a sleepy crowd. After just eight games, Thomas has blended seamlessly into a top-tier team. This fact may embarrass the Chicago Bulls, who sent Thomas home this season even though he was making nearly $14 million. "They know they made a mistake," Thomas said. "It's a no-brainer." Why didn't he play for the Bulls? "The only thing I can think of is that they have a group of young guys they're trying to develop... that they didn't want me to mess them up or take time away from them." The Suns' style no doubt has helped him adjust quickly. "When you don't call plays, there's nothing to remember," D'Antoni said. Thomas said D'Antoni told him that "he'd only get mad if you pass up open shots." Thomas said, "You don't see me passing up too many open shots. I don't want the coach to get mad."
