No that was not his list of top 5 centers. He said "I'm going to go a different route and make a list of centers I would want to build my franchise around" not "Top 5 centers to have in a game 7 situation".
Ok, that makes much more sense. All those guys ahead of Yao are younger. I still think Oden and Bynum are question marks.
Oden seems to be a good kid and I hope for his complete recovery and be a force in the league. But... just imagine how stupid Tim Legler will look if what AzNaNsZ says in the quote becomes true...
Tim Legler was a former NBA scrub. Can't take him seriously at all. And Tim Duncan is NOT a center. He's a power forward. Get it in your head, people! YAO is #1 center in the NBA right now. He PWNED Dwight Howard with a spanking. People, just let it be and stop fussing over it. YAO is #1, case close.
Wow I lost the little respect I had for him. (I only had little respect because he gets PAID for something that any one of us can do and maybe better)
Hmm...that makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the heads up. I can see he was going for youth. But still the Oden and Bynum picks puzzle me. Oden hasn't even played a single game yet and he's ready to declare him a cornerstone of a franchise. And I guess Bynum is so in vogue nowadays he is simply stating what ESPN wants him to say.
What difference does it make? The 4/5 has been almost interchangeable for the past half decade. Aside from a few players like Yao, Shaq, Curry, Kaman, and Ilgauskaus, almost all the Centers in the NBA can play a bit at the 4. Duncan is a 7 footer who scores mainly in the low-post, defends the paint, and grabs 10+ rebounds a night. Just because the Spurs use another player to guard the 5 to keep Duncan out of foul trouble the first 3 quarters doesn't really make a difference. You mean in the playoffs? For 1 game - a game 7? You're going off regular season with those rankings. Yao and Dwight are excellent choices based on regular season numbers. But my Top 3 Centers for a Game 7 right now? 1. Tim Duncan - Easy choice 2. Rasheed Wallace - Currently plays the C this season, was impressive in the playoffs with Portland. Was great with the Pistons. 3. Is a wash between Ben Wallace or Yao Ming, depending on the rest of my line-up. B. Wallace is an underrated playoff performer. He's the only Center I see that has consistently limited Shaq's performance throughout a 7 game series. For 1 game, you need his defense.
How much do you really watch and know about Kaman if you can't even spell his name? Regardless, I actually agree that Kaman is still totally underrated and deserves to be ahead of Bynum. Marcus Camby still doesn't get enough love, either. I would rank the top 5 guys that play center in this order: Yao Howard Amare Camby Kaman Honorable Mentions: Ilgauskas, Chandler, Bynum
I caught that part of the show but I wasn't really paying attention to the list. I just remember saying he saw Greg Oden recently and he was thick. Not fat, just raw muscle, weighing in at 310 and was training vigorously in the off season. That was probably why he made such a reckless claim. I will say this micro fracture surgery is iffy for a basketball athlete and I'd reckon less weight be better to help recover from such an injury than adding it, even if it muscle. 310 is 310 no matter how you slice it. I haven't been watching Bynum much but I've heard he's really stepped up his game, but the few highlights I've caught of him, he's been force fed by Kobe, similar to how Nash has force fed Stoudemire throughout much of his career. Props to them for being great finishers, but they're secondary stars on their team that are pivotal for a balanced inside out game. I think Yao is starting to come into his own and fall out of the secondary star role and is showing he can be the primary threat on offense, and still be a respectable cornerstone on defense when he isn't asked to leave the paint. His size really does alter a ton of shots, and he is in the top 5 in blocks last time I checked. To each their own though. Howard I understand. He doesn't have anyone force feeding him easy finishes. He has to crash the boards for the majority of his points, while still being able to back his body down 8 feet inside the paint and do his limited moves with great success at drawing fouls or shooting at a high % clip. It would be outright scary to see him paired with a true PG like Nash, or Kidd. He's not quite a go to guy yet, but in due time I think he will be. He's already shown he has the potential being one of the league leaders in FT attempts from his mere presence inside the paint.
why can't these dumbass's see what we can see. amare stoudamire is nothing without steve nash. he cannot create his own offense. if you ever see him with the ball in the post, he looks nervous and passes out. what bs!
these fools, they get paid good money for throwing craps out. This is the exact reason why I don't watch any of their trash talking. If you like TD (regardless of him as a Center or PF), you have to like Yao, because they both showing that unselfish, consistent, heart/soul, and dominate in their games. Howard, I can live with that because he is a freakin monster on the board and a great player. (remind me of shaq) Amare? man he is great when Nash is playing the PG, but who wouldn't? he is no longer dominate or consistent with his shots. The rest are either unproven or don't have what it takes to be even consider as top center. If you are in the 4th quarter of a game 7 playoffs series, who would you have? -someone who can shoot a high percentage of freethrow -someone who demands attentions and draw defenders -someone who has great vision and high passing skill -someone who has high BB IQ -someone who can make shots those should be questions those fools should be asking themselves before picking the top 5 center. quite frankly, with that list I think Yao is the only one (and TD if counts) and second howard, after that there is a big gap.
Tim Legler is a dumb@ass. The Oden thing is ridiculous. That being said, if you think Yao is better than Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan, or Stoudemire, especially this year, you have homer blinders on.
That is false. Nash helps Amare, no doubt. Nash helps anyone. But Amare can take you off the dribble and hit the open mid range jumper with consistency. Amare might not put up the same numbers on another team, but neither would anyone on that team. Amare is still a very very good player.
