ppl who say tim legler was a horrible player are correct ppl who say tim legler wrote a bad review about the rox are incorrect our offense is no different than JVG in the overall sense of a game, RA was expected to push the pts to the high 90s our defense is a moot point, i care about how we still avg 20turnovers a game
I like Legler, he is one of my favorite sports guys. I have heard him say many nice things about the Rockets through the years. I am a huge Rockets fan, and that is the grade I would give them as well. This team really lacks personality, they rarely look good, win or lose. One of the least exciting teams in years. (Only Landry ignites a fire now and then)
anyone who thinks the rockets deserve better than a C- didn't have very high hopes for this season. legler is right. the offense hasn't looked good for most of the season thus far, and the defense has definitely taken a step back.
At this stage of the year, the Rockets have been a huge disappointment, compared to the expectations everyone had at the beginning of the year. I'm surprised he grades us this high. ... only fans are seeing the improvements, and I'd prefer we sneak up on everyone this year.
I'd cut Tim some slack. If I were to grade the Rockets right now, I wouldn't be far off from Legler. 9th place in the West for this Rockets team doesn't deserve anything better than a C-! (Unless you're satisfied with 9th place).
I haven't read the entire thread, but in case nobody else has mentioned it... The Rockets are #1 in rebounding rate and #2 in defensive efficiency as of last night. Source I really wouldn't call that a "step back", considering we would be no better than #2 in defensive efficiency last year if the Celtics had their current squad.
Spot on, I say. The Rockets are a 'middle-of-the-pack' team in the increasingly overcrowded Western Conference. Despite having two all-stars and a talent cast, they're collectively nothing more than a 'good' team, but nowhere near an 'elite' squad. We're not championship contenders, that's all that matters to me, and that's all anyone on the Rockets (including the fans) should be pushing for. I would give us a D+...Legler is a nicer guy than I am. P.S.: Legler has consistently been one of the more vocal supporters of the Rockets over the past few years. To make him out as a perennial Rocket hater is just ridiculous.
we took a step back defensively to what? the 2nd best defensive team in the L? offensively, we are just starting to hit our strides so he's right on that. it has taken us longer than anticipated offensively.
And it goes beyond the stats. When you watch the games you can see this team does not have the same teeth defensively that it did under JVG. Of course, we all expected that and I am pleasantly surprised the defense is still as good as it is. Now about that offense...
No stupid is you It's all about expectations. Minnesota had absolutely none after its fire sale and lately they have done well and have beaten the Suns twice. They are bad yes but they are just as bad as expected. The Rockets however are not even 10 games over .500 at the midway point it that is way under expectations. I agree whole heartedly with his grade. Over the first half of the season we have underachieved. We did worse than expected, but we have turned it on late so a grade just under average is what we should be.
He doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. "Taken a step back defensively" -- hilarious. "New offense not translating into wins" -- err, newsflash Timmy boy: the new offense is only JUST starting to materialize. This is how you separate real analysts from random talking heads who just know how to spout off popular talking points and collect huge paychecks. People like Stein I can respect because even though sometimes he's way wrong, he actually does his homework and is actually a real journalist. I have a ton of respect for Hollinger, partly because I'm an engineer myself and I can appreciate the value of factual numerical analysis. People like Legler, on the other hand, are nothing more than random talking heads who carry no weight whatsoever. Might as well be taking talking points from Jalen Rose (well ... Rose might have the hollowest skull in all of Connecticut at this point).
I would like to see everyone rating Rockets AAA+++. But realistically, they have performed below my expectation. C- might low, but definitely not above C+.
Actually, I wouldn't expect any self-respecting analyst to give the Rockets anymore than a C given their preseason expectations. It's just that Legler's "analysis" betrays his utter lack of knowledge and insight into NBA basketball. It's one thing to say "this team is mediocre", it's another thing to be able to back yourself up with substance. I mean, come on -- "the new free-flowing offense has not translated into wins" ... are you kidding me?
