You sound very ignorant. That is what you want to use yours for, then fine, but don't bother someone else if they have different ideas.
Sorry, I originally quoted the wrong post to respond to. I meant to quote Iroc's. Different Christians beleive different things about the issue.
Yep, and the NBA has a right to deal with the consequences of his actions or free speech. You can believe what you want, but you have to pay the piper if your views do not agree with your bosses, got to be more tolerant at work. DD
Who said Hardaway didn't have the right to say he hates gay people? No one is saying he should be punished as a matter of law. There is a right to free speech, not a right to free speech without a reaction or consequence of any kind. Do you really not understand this concept?
Why does this always come up at least once on a hot button issue? He has the right to say whatever he wants anytime he wants. No one has even said anything on that matter. What's your point? Or are you saying no one should form any opinions on Hardway's opinion? Or maybe that the NBA should not take any action against Hardaway? If you go around your work office telling random people you hate them, or go around to your company's clients telling them you hate them, you will probably get fired too.
Following up on this and professorjay's point. Free speech cuts both ways. Hardaway can say whatever he wants but everyone else has the right to say what they feel about him back. In regards to his employment this is a stickier issue but recent court rulings have granted employers a certain amount of leeway in regard to policing employee's speech. Hardaway could argue that the NBA was persecuting him for his beliefs which I would suspect would be almost impossible for him to win. I don't know if any of the lawyers here on CF.net would have any more info on this. MadMax, Sam Fisher?
My point is this is a tempest in a teapot. Who cares whether Amaechi wants to expound on his sexual orientation or whether Hardaway doesn't agree with the concept? Under current mores anything goes. Let them say what they want. Who cares, except for those who want something to argue?
Have you ever formed opinions on anything? From Bonzi's ability to gel w/ the team, or what your favorite movie is, to Bush's administration? Welcome to internet message boards.
I have opinions on everything! My opinion on this is that it is a tempest in a teapot, and that there are a lot of opinions on this by people who are just trying to show off a highly superficial political correctness.
I hate people who are too skinny..or work out too much. The whole washboard abs thing makes me think of muscle diagrams in biology class, and people who weigh <160 lbs obsessing all the time about if they look good in their jeans are simple wastes of oxygen.
My $0.02: 1) 95% of the population is homophobic...there are degrees from the extreme "I hate gays" to the 180 "I don't agree with the lifestyle, but it's their choice." Constitutional amendments banning gay marriage are not being supported by the right wing only. 2) Would females want to shower nude with males who are strangers? I can understand why males would not want to shower nude with gay males who are strangers. If I ever go to a nude beach in Europe, I'm going to check out t***. Human nature. Should I look down at the ground instead? IMO sexual arousal is different from checking out. I don't think gay males will get hard ons in the shower but I do think they'll check out other dudes schlongs. Human nature.
this may seem like an ignorant statement to some but its an interesting point. why don't we shower with women? because women, and men would feel uncomfortable. so if a person believes homosexuality is a natural phenomenom, why is it wrong for someone to say they don't want to be in a locker room with gays. now the counter to that would be there is alot more openess about homosexuality in female sports and they don't have a problem dealing with those issues.
I hate broccoli and I hate the Dallas Cowboys and I hate the Dallas Mavericks... come to think of it, I hate it when I say something without thinking and really understanding the consequences... in fact hate is a weird word... like love... Do I love homosexual sex acts? How would you answer that? Or Do I hate thinking about two men having **** sex? How would you answer that? It is always wrong to hate people, it's bigotry to hate classes of people. Using the word hate does not make someone a potential 'hate crime' offender Could be, but more than likely someone just didn't think and frame their responses so that no one in the world could possibly be offended. I sure don't defend Hardaway for saying publically almost brashly I hate gays. I don't think Hardway did the right thing at all. I'm not going to react to him any stronger than I reacted to Amaechi.... Haggard's deal interested me more. Our society is hyper sensitive to some things and careless about others.
Bingo! And Smokey's observation was brilliant! All this is political correctness gone wild. Am I homophobic for asking why homosexuals are called "gay?" Are all homosexuals blithe and happy? Are heterosexuals never blithe and happy? I think not in both cases. Personally, I never refer to a person as "gay" unless I observe that he or she is convivial at that particular moment. Oops, that isn't politically correct, is it?
Smokey, you clearly haven't stayed at a sleep-in in Amsterdam. It's been a really long time (like the early '70's), but they had coed showers. 50 cents a night for a bunk to toss your sleeping bag on, along with a congenial atmosphere. D&D. Sleep? You've got to be Kidding!
