That's just it. I don't think Orlando will have an owner willing to fork over all that money. Think about it, McGrady basically has a max contract right now as does Hill. Miller (even though he's not worth it) will more than likely command a max contract. Then throw in Duncan's max contract. Unless the new owner (The Magic are for sale in case you've been alseep) has Paul Allen or Mark Cuban money (and willing to spend it) there is no way the he is going to have 4 max players on his team. Like the Spurs argument, who will their role players be, and how will the owner pay them? That's why I think San Antonio has the edge on resigning Duncan.

I'm hoping for Debartalo, he'll pay the luxury no doubt. Miller won't get the MAX. There is no team in the league that will give him the MAX, I think he'll get 5-6 mil a year. Depends on how he develops. Put Grant Hill, Mike Miller, Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan together and that team will sell a lot of tickets. They'll be up there with the Lakers/Wizards in road attendance. Traveling All-star team.
I agree with TradeMan 12, I think Duncan wants to lure Jason Kidd to San Antonio. There'll be a new arena in S.A. so the pressure's on to keep him. S.A. needs some good fortune to come its way. If Duncan leaves, the Spurs must hope for a sign-and-trade. But what's better for the city's new arena: Duncan; or anything else?
TexasG, Miller will not command anywhere near a max contract. regardless, good points, Orlando will be a major player in the sweepstakes.
Duncan to Orlando. Orlando to Charlotte. Yippee... Grant Hill: Duke Tracy McGrady: prepped at Mt. Zion in Durham, NC Tim Duncan: Wake Forest Looking good.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Miller is worth it but I just have a feeling that some dumbass owner will throw major bucks at him, and Orlando will be forced to either match it or let him walk with no compensation. If they do a sign and trade with Miller they will still end up with a bad contract that will limit their chances at Duncan. If Orlando was to sign Duncan it will more than likely be in a sign & trade like some of you have said but who are they going to give up? I seriously doubt the Spurs would be willing to let Duncan walk without getting more than just Miller.
Duncan can get more money from San Antonio than any other team. If he tells them he's leaving, they will want to get something in return, not just cap space. I think this makes a sign-and-trade likely, assuming there are enough cap-space players to give Duncan's agent sufficient leverage. This gives San Antonio a seat at the bargaining table. Who can deliver the best replacement players? The team needs (a a player or players to match Duncan's new max contract) b) cap room after the deal to sign Duncan under the lux tax, or a spendthrift owner. San Antonio will want a good player or players (more likely) in return for helping Duncan get max cash. Duncan will want a team with good, complementary pieces left over after the trade, a good coach, owner, and work enviornment, and endorsement market. Given that, there are a number of possibilities. He could end up with Kidd in NJ for Kmart and Van Horn. Or Jefferson, Van Horn, etc. He could end up with TMac in Orlando for Miller and Hill, or other package He could end up in Milwaukee for Ray Allen and Tim Thomas, or pick package. Perhaps Houston for Mobley, Griffin. or pick package. The price would be steep, to compete, and unlikely SA would deal with interstate rival. It will be interesting to see it play out.
From what I understand, Duncan wants a warm-climate city. Of course, don't they all? It would be easier for Kidd to go to S.A. than vice versa. Kidd is a West Coast guy. I will be rooting for the Nets in the playoffs. Stay put, Jason! It would be real nice to have one less contender in the West (S.A.) And where will the Magic be in the future? If the team stays put or moves to Charlotte, then I'd say Duncan could definitely be on the move. But the pressure to stay, what with that new arena on the way, will also be enormous. Leave, Tim, leave!
I know these are just possabilities but I just have a feeling that Duncan will not end up in Orlando. First of all it will have to be in a sign & trade. The only player on the Magic's roster with a big enough contract is McGrady and I don't see the Magic trading away McGrady even for Tim. Not saying that McGrady is better but he will draw more fans with his style of play, and with the panding ownership change my guess is that they will want to fills seats first. Also why would Duncan go to Orlando if McGrady is gone? He might as well stay in S.A. As for the Bucks ... I haven't thought about them. The definately have the talent, and contracts to be able to trade for Duncan but I think the climate will play a role there. I still think the Spurs have the edge.
The Spurs have the edge, that's true, but didn't Orlando trade away Outlaw to free up cap space after next season?
if thats the strategy consider denver can do the opposite, sign dice, then take duncan. plus we will have posey and 2 top draft picks. if they want to play together, its much more likely in denver. they will win alot more.
