Damn, that's a sad picture. It really is crazy how many opportunities they had to close it out in game 6 and tie it in game 7. Think about how bad the knicks felt in 94 and this is still 100 times worse.
Give me a break - Tim Duncan has enough championships. It's about time these Spurs tasted defeat in the finals. No sympathy here.
I think he's more sad reality is about to hit him now he has to deal with his ho-bag wife and divorce.
From a competitive standpoint alone, one can be sympathetic towards the moment and not necessarily towards Duncan. Obviously, his career has been epic.
ah, well thanks for clearing it up. i knew i must have been missing something - it's that i've never played bball before.
no, i meant that shot to duncan was about the same level of difficulty as a dream fadeaway was to dream. ones that those elite talents make more often than they miss them. doesn't mean that missing them is a chokejob though. duncan is competitive, and is a leader who places the blame on himself, rather than throwing the real reasons for the loss(es) (ginobili, parker, green, popovich) under the bus. of course he is going to take missing that shot hard. it's a shot he would make more often than not. just ain't a bunny or a layup, sorry. and no, i'm not a spurs fan, i'm a die-hard rockets fan. didn't have a dog in the fight, but now that our debating over the difficulty of a shot has turned to you trolling out of anger, i shall bid you adieu, old chap.
Hakeem would have scored 50-60 points in game seven even with a double team. Birdman covering Duncan one on one at times holy-moley Dream would have annihilated anything the Heat would have done except triple team and then Dream passing out of the post = $$.

I can respect lots of things about him like his loyalty. I don't feel sad or sympathetic for him or the spurs organization though. I'm old enough to remember the playoff battles and the way they tanked to get Tim Duncan. I also don't feel for D cowboys and New O saints etc. Screwum.
That was a big miss. It would have tied the game and put a lot of pressure on the Heat on the other end of the court. Its mentally tougher when you have the ball and its tied vs when you have the ball and you are up a pair.
And that is why he has 4 championships and She-mac doesn't. Duncan takes winning seriously and will take a large amount of the blame for any situation because he feels he controls his destiny. Hate to see him that upset. Great player! Also, as Hakeem fan who thinks Dream is the best. Any comments of Dream playing better than Duncan at this age are r****ded. At this age it is truly unbelievable that Duncan is doing what he is doing. Yes, incredible play by Leonard and Green was the difference from the previous years where they didn't making the playoffs. Manu needs to hang it up. Parker showed me that he is better than I thought.
Tmac also took blame: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/oleKfixy-7A?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And tmac doesnt have any rings because he was never surrounded with the amount of talent duncan was with.
Tim Duncan knows how much of an easier "shot" he had...The first attempt was just not in line...or it would've gone off the backboard and in the hoop...his tip was just a tad bit too strong...Those for a 7 footer being guarded by someone much smaller are "bunnies." He may have rushed the shot just a tad bit...but his view was clear, he was all the way up on his shot, and all Battier can do is pray he misses it...and thats exactly what happened. Battier was asked about that exact play, and thats what he said. Battier was just hoping he shot the ball over him and 8/10 times that shot goes in... And for everyone else to realize...that when a game is tied there is tremendous momentum that a team has...If that bucket dropped...LBJ's jumper wouldve only had the Heat up by two..with the Spurs having a chance to answer or take the lead...Thats an eternity in terms of basketball... Just some thoughts on that scramble possession where the Spurs were down by 2, and Manu passed it to Green...Manu was initially open on that shot...but chose to make the extra pass...I wished Manu took that shot...it looked to be in rhythm...If that 3 goes down...the Spurs wouldve taken a 1 point lead...and that is just huge!!!! And dont forget that Chalmers missed 2 huge FTs... as well...The opportunity was there for the Spurs...and it was so surprising that they weren't able to do so either in game 6 or 7...game 6 was just more realistic...and one more made FT or one secure rebound ended that game...
Someone asked why I would feel bad for him (despite his rings, $, etc) in the game thread, and this is why. You can see it here. The culmination of events up to the last moment, and how he played incredibly and still fell short. He's the last person to blame on the loss, but it will haunt him nonetheless for sometime. In a weird way, if they lost 4-2 in the 1st round or something like that it wouldn't be that much of a downer.
It's not always about already having money and rings or anything like that. I'm sure basketball was a great distraction for him during the divorce (which affects you no matter how rich/famous/poor/unknown you are) and fighting for that ring gave him a purpose. Now it's over without the happy ending. Tough loss but he's not asking for sympathy or making excuses, just a man doing his thing. Gotta respect it.
