You always want value in business, especially businesses with salary caps. You want the people you sign for veteran minimum contracts to be worth more than that.
Both Ariza and LMM did. Thats whats so frustrating. We were a CP3 injury and missed threes from besting GSW. We knew Lebron was going to the Lakers before we let the other two guy so its not like we were waiting on him. We are way over the cap anyway. Why not bring back the two (or at least one of) the guys who anchored the defense?
If we offload Anderson to a team with cap (like ATL) for (lots of) picks, how much does that lower the tax hit?
I think Tillman is insinuating that they didn't discuss tax because ge trusts morey will make the right moves. If he goes to the tax it is because they are ready to win it all. If they aren't read, they will be below.
They were pretty close last year and CP3 is not getting any younger. You probably have 2 years before cp3s contract turns into an albatross. You should be doing everything you can to win in the next two years, but we have been hesitant to resign our guys.
one is an inept offensive player and always shoots terribly in playoffs and the other is always injured
If you don't think the luxury tax is an issue just because Tillman said it never came up over the summer....then you're just naive. Luxury tax and REPEATER luxury taxes are a huge consideration for this team and every team going forward every year. They cannot and won't be ignored. Don't matter what Tillman says. Keep his comments in context and it'd help a lot here. The luxury tax and repeater luxury tax matter.
While what you said is funny, in respect to Tilman and Morey I hope you do realize that they didn't sign Ariza because of '15 m'. They didn't even know he would be offered that. They decided ahead of time to go a different direction and told Ariza well before free agency that the Rockets would not be looking to resign him. Rockets wanted to roll the dice and upgrade that position by taking some risks.. in retrospect those risks did not pan out. Nontheless, thats why Ariza signed with the Suns on day one right after the offer was made. However, Morey today cleaned up a bit more of his mess. His entire offseason signing were trash, compounded with the trash contract he gave Ryan Anderson. Today was the first real big step of recovering from Moreys recent big blunders.
