OK, all kidding aside, sir... do you REALLY REALLY REALLY not care what someone does "off the [court/course/field]", as long as they're good at the sport they play? Are you serious?
I suppose it depends on what that off the court stuff is. There are some things that would probably bother me, particularly in team sport environments where off the court behavior may impact team chemistry. Tiger cheating on his wife dead honestly doesn't matter to me in the least bit. I didn't like watching Tiger Woods before because of his spitting-clean image and I won't not like watching him now that we know he's a man w****. I am not a religious person at all. I don't feel like Woods is going to hell. I just think he jacked up his marriage and family life but that's his own business. If he was cheating on the course, e.g., using steroids or something, that would be a different story.
Really? How much less could you care? Personally I couldn't care less. I want to watch him play golf. Not give me lessons on life.
The question is, does it make him a little less likeable. We tend to root for people we like. We talk about how easy it is to like this Rockets team, for example...and there have been editions of the Rockets that have been less likeable that we don't get as excited about. On the flip side, Kobe Bryant is an artist...but he comes off so smug, he's very hard for me to like. A lot of what he does on the court that's amazing, I see through my, "it's hard to like you" glasses. That doesn't diminish him as an athlete...just makes him less likeable. So does this make it harder to root for him, if you were rooting for him before? Certainly companies who write big endorsement checks are running for the hills, because they don't want to be associated with him.
Good catch. I fixed it. I give people a hard time when they misuse that term then went and did it myself.
This will make me root for Tiger even more, because now to me he appears to be more human. Humans make mistakes. The mistake Tiger made was getting married. I'm sure he's learned from it and probably won't make this mistake again. Before all this came out, I thought Tiger was pretty much a Robot who did and said all the right things and practiced golf 20 hours a day. Now I know, he is a human being like me, and I can relate to him better.
Yeah, I do see what you mean. Personally this stuff doesn't make me root for him less as a golfer. I don't know why....it probably should. I agree with you on Kobe. I do root for him less just because he seems like a prick.
to me, i think the difference is you see how kobe acts while he's playing the sport. if it came out that aaron brooks was doing the same thing as tiger, it wouldn't change how much i root for him. i'm not a full on tiger lover because of some of his antics on the course as well.
Well, I don't share this attitude. I'm pulling for Tiger no more or no less than before this whole fiasco. His personal life is simply irrelevant to me as a golf fan unless he does something so horrendous that it flies against even my low moral expectations. Nothing has changed as far as my attitude toward Tiger Woods, the golfer, and Tiger Woods, the golfer, is the only thing I was ever interested in following.
that's understandable...not everyone is going to see it that way. personally, i'm hoping Tiger gets it all together. but it seems like people were acting shocked that somehow this event might make it harder for some people to root for him....i can certainly understand why someone might have a difficult time rooting for him after learning of this.
yep..he sure does. but they took some time off. Nike didn't use his image for a year or so while all of that was going on. i'm sure, in time, some endorsers will find their way back to tiger.
Maybe Tiger shouldn't been so stupid to make proclaim his love to every freaking women he slept with. This embarrassment is only going to last for a few months and he should be using escorts from now on. Lesson learned.

You will root for tiger more? I don't get that at all. I would prefer to see a good person win more than a bad person. And I think Tiger has been a bad person. Don't tell me this crap about how sometimes good people do bad things and we are all human etc etc. There are plenty of other players to root for that have not proven themselves to be unfaithful and dishonest. I really hope you are not a human being like Tiger, you have to stoop pretty low.
