Props to him. I think its a good argument he is the greatest athlete of all time. Too bad for Lebron, he claimed this was his life goal or something. http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=4524640
Probably going to derail this thread, but I'd say most dominant athlete, but not greatest. And he still has 4 more majors to win, though its most likely a short matter of time. Money earned will be a universal tie between all sports, but I think it's a weaker point in arguing greatest athlete.
I'm sure Tiger and the other multimillionaire golfers are really hurt that you feel that way. They're wiping their tears with hundred dollar bills.
It's kinda funny that someone would even feel the need to make a post like that. At this point in time the whole "are golfers athletes" debate is something akin to the debate over abortion or the death penalty. People will argue in circles for days on end with no one changing the other persons mind.
He did not say they were no well paid, just that they are not athletes...at least not like say an NBA or NFL player.
My thought exactly. BronBron wanted to be the first $1B athlete. I guess his 'manager' should have did the math.
Most of Tigers money is made from endorsements..not golf winnings. I'm glad for him, he seems like a very nice guy. But greatest athlete of all time? I don't think so. Most dominant golfer of all time?..probably.
I disagree with the "athlete" part. He hits a little stationary ball against the wind and makes it into a small hole that's what she said. Whoop-dee-doo. That's not a "greatest athlete of all time" criteria. It hurts me to say this, but as far as athlete, busting his booty in practice and achieving goals, DREAM, Michael Jordan, Mayweather Jr., Wayne Gretzky, Mickey Mantle, and even Larry Bird come to mind. Greatest athlete of all time? I don't think so. Swingin' a golf club. Even The Shark was better. C'mon. "What about Rocky Marciano?" -
I don't know whether golfers can be considered "athletes" in the traditional sense of the word, but what I do know is that Tiger Woods' workout and practice regimen is as intensive as many professional athletes.
Are they only counting prize money from golf or his earnings from everything? If that is just prize money that is amazing.
