I think people who grow up atleast half black like Obama or Alicia Keys or Mike Bibby or Halle Berry or Mariah Carey, we could go on, are in a different category. For the most part they identify themselves as black, probably because of how society was when they were children but that's irrelevant to the topic. Tiger is different from all of them. He is only 25% black. He doesn't consider himself black. America, atleast the majority (white people), don't see him as black. It's a different situation.
I disagree as well. Self-identification plays an important role. If you claim to be mixed, it changes people's perception of you. See how easily posters can rattle off the names of famous people of mixed ancestry?

Halle Berry is mixed. So is Mariah, Jason Kidd, Bibby, and a bajillion other people. Precisely. We're mixed, so telling people what you see yourself as has a big impact. When I tell people I'm Franco-Texan, they don't argue with me, they just tell jokes about the French surrendering to everybody.

Unless you are born in Southeast Asia, I doubt anybody has white or black. Even nowadays, there is little race mixing.

Race still drives many issues today, but I don't think this is one of them. Mark Sanford and Eliot Spitzer had quite a bit of press on their affairs. And no one outside of their jurisdictions knew who the hell they were until their affairs broke. Both also had a bit of drama to their stories to make it big (reported missing for a few days and cheating w/ an escort, respectively). Hell, Spitzer's call girl got a gig w/ the NY Post just now. Tiger's car crash where he was initially reported in critical condition really accelerated his story too. And he is 1000x the celebrity that they were. Not to single them out, but I bet there's a few other black professional athletes who are married to a white woman and cheating on her w/ white groupies. But none of them is popular enough to generate this kind of attention.
