Thanks for all your replies Tim. For what I know, you are in no way obliged to come on the CC.net BBS and respond to us rowdy folks. (unless the Rocket's organization is some how making you do so) ;)

All of your input is greatly appreciated.

I've only ever seen Spencer on television...as portrayed both by Robert Urich (sporadically) and Joe Mantegna( I think I've seen all the A&E ones he's done, about 3 or 4). Are the books worht reading?

Based on the show, while Spencer was clearly literary, and was quite an interesting combination at times, it seemed forced at others, and when they got into discussions about who was 'tougher', 'harder', etc., it reminded me of the discussions about 'heat' from Showgirls...Again, a good show, from what I saw (more something my father watched)...but Rockford is possibly the coolest character ever on American television; from his open admissions to fear, avoidance of violence if possible, particulary with larger opponents, his sarcasm, bad luck, etc...Simply cool. A recent one I saw had the folowing interplay between Rockford and two goons. Rockford is staking out a house, is noticed, and two goons are sent to bring him in. He is pretending to read when one of them leans in at his driver's side window.

" Hello there" says the goon.

" Hi." says JR with a nod, and looks back at his paper.

" So...what are you doing?" asks the goon.

JR, without looking up from his paper: " Oh, just putting my guard up like I do whenever someone I don't know tries to butt into my business."

    :D

I don't think that it's a stretch to suggest that Rockford is the basis for pretty much all the American television P.I.'s since...I know that Magnum tried to emulate him, and I suspect that there are plenty of others. I don't actually watch all that much contemporary American television, but I doubt that there's anyone cooler on the air today.

I have read this entire thread and I am pretty much amazed that the Rox would do this. It is just another empty promise. Rox said leaving Ticketmaster would relieve us of Ticketmaster's charges, they said nothing about the TM charges being replaced with Rox charges. Very, disappointing. The story about the shipping charges not being refunded since he had to pick them up at will call sounds almost illegal.

But the simple fact is that all sports teams don't really care about the simple everyday fan. They care about the corporate fans, the rich fans, the people who will buy floor seats. But what really pains me is the fact that Jeff, the guy that has done more than anyone to keep the Rox here in town, totally bent him over. For all he did, he should have free season tix. But this is how they thank him? Again, very disappointing.

I really didn't put too much faith in comments about Les not caring about Houston or fans, but the more I read, the evidence is is right in my face. The BS we were fed about the NBA forcing the Rox to remove Houston from the new unis is totally insulting when other new unis have the city name proudly displayed. My brother bought season tix again for the 5th year straight, but after dealing with the Rox office, he said this is the very last year. He also has Texans tickets and felt like they did a much better job respecting the fans.

I am not calling out Tim or anything like that. I think he does what he can for sure. But the entire organization seems not to really give a damn. From the hastily thrown together Hakeem "tribute"last year, to the uniform "unveiling" that we still are waiting for, to the ticket charge fiasco I am reading about now, it is tough to be a fan and support.

I guess that is why I got Cougar Season tickets instead this year.

He's right, girls! I just bought tickets up here in Dallas for the Nov. 13th game (Rockets vs. Mavericks) at the AAC.

2 $10 seats cost me over $37 bucks... nearly 100% of the ticket price in surcharges.

    Be glad you're in Houston.

    btw, Tim... you da' man.

just went to the game tonight and bought some $14 dollar tix. But guess what, they didnt charge that silly handling tax or any tax. I guess just go to the box office there and purchase your tix there cuz you probably have a better chance at better seats regardless of the price.

Agreed, which is why I will watch all games in the comfort of my home instead of laying my hard earned cash on a team that will continue to be happy with mediocrity.

Trade Cutino, get rid of Griffin...do whatever you want, but I'm still not gonna pay the cash to see this under achieving team out to rape the real fans of their hard earned money.

No, I did not read past the fourth post in this thread, and I don't care to. The prices are absolutely ridiculous as stated, and there's no reason to waste more of my time reading more of the b****ing about Les and his "this is the best team ever assembled, so give me more money" bull****.

    I didn't bring it up, but I have to come to the defense of one of my favorite literary characters .... ;-}

    <spenser_rant>

You must have been basing your judgements on the two Spenser TV series (w. the late Bob Urich and Joe Mantegna in the title roles). Based on those, absolutely yes, Jim Rockford would kick the crap out of Spenser.

If, however, you had read any of the Robert Parker novels (I've read about 28 of the 31 published to date), you'd realize that the "book" Spenser would not only kick Jim Rockford's ass, he'd smack down Rockford's old man, the fat police detective, the snitch Angel, and the "tv" Spenser at the same low price, all while pithily quoting T.S. Eliot or Faulkner and mentally developing a new recipe for grilled mahi with a cream poblano sauce or something.

The TV shows only portrayed a pale shadow of the character in the books. Reading Spenser novels is like drinking beer on a hot summer afternoon -- they go down fast and clean and leave you wishing you had just one more. Proust it ain't ... but it'll do in a pinch.

"In a fallen world even perfection is flawed." - Spenser

P.S. For those who might wish to give the series a go, I recommend the following outstanding novels with which to start off:
    - God Save the Child
    - Early Autumn
    - The Judas Goat
    - Looking for Rachel Wallace

If you couldnt be bothered to read the entire thread...then you missed where the Rox listened, and did something about it.

Go to the 5th page, next to the last post on that page..and read.

If you cant be bothered to do that, then keep your mouth shut before you make yourself look even stupider than you already do.

i just dont buy it Tim

every other business in the world figures in the costs of business into the price of their product, but the Rockets have such high overhead on tickets that they are forced to add charges?

I think these charges are just a way for the Rockets make ticket prices look lower on the surface

this is still deceptive pricing in my book

Season ticket holder here ... Section 124 lower rows

    On parking ...

Went to the game last night ... The parking garage IS open to the public and is $15, HOWEVER

I drove around the block and parked in a metered area for free ... Everything around there was pretty well lit and I had no problem walking across the street with my wife and 2 young kids.

We parked 2 blocks from the arena and one of those blocks was the parking garage.

There was plenty of parking available for pay ($3-$20) as well

I think the parking thing will be just fine ... If you remember @ the Compaq Center, if you got there anytime near gametime, the trafiic was HORRIBLE. I arrived 5 min before tipoff and there was very little if any traffic. I know it was the weekend and a preseason game but still, I can't imagine the traffic being much more. There are just so many more streets to get to the arena then there were @ Compaq Center.

As for the interior asthetics, the arena itself is just flat out AMAZING. Great video screens and nice feeling of being close to the action.

White unis look sharp in person, kinda like the silks that jockeys wear.

The food is very good too. As good as the specialty ones @ The Summit. The prices are on par with the old arena as well.

On total, it is a homerun

Here's something that I didn't see anyone bring up:
Since the Summit ticket prices included the parking fee, shouldn't the new ticket prices be marked down since they do not include a parking fee?

Or did Les decide it was a good opportunity to take a little more off the top without anyone noticing? If parking was included in a $10 ticket (say $2, to be conservative), then our new "cheapest" ticket is actually $2 more than it was last year. And you can add onto that any amount you would now pay for parking over $2 (which would be $13 if you park in the garage ($15-$2)). So we get a price hike, but it's subtle enough that no one complains...

    ...until now. ;)

Last year I paid 13.00 for my tickets each...This yeah I save a whopping $1!!!!! On each ticket.... BIG WHOOPIE DOO
I have 2 tickets for $12 each I would have been happy if they would have kept the same price and gave us a parking pass.

I was lied to by the rockets front office, when I ask them about the situation with parking,They told me they were gonna see about getting a parking pass worked out for us non rich folks!

Again like i said before this is gonna come back and Bite Les in the A$$.

Tim comes here makes a statement and it's like the golden god has spoken and we should all be grateful.
Well Tim your organization is alienating the true fan you guys needs to check out how the fans are treated by the Texans and the Astros.

Oh wait it's gonna take the news media to put a fire under the A$$ before you guys do anything.

I went to the new arena twice this weekend. Both times, I parked less than 3 blocks from the building on the street for free. There were multiple spaces around me at meters with no one there. I didn't even look around. I just pulled right up and parked. I just don't get what the big deal is with parking.

Well, the arena will probably only be 75% full anyways on any given night except for opening night, so you should be able to just walk up to the box office and get tickets.

The problem is that with the Astros, most season ticket holders have the option of buying parking as well. The part of town that the are is in is pretty foreign to most of us and rightly many people are worried about safety since that area was crawling with vagrants. The Rockets didn't even offer parking to regular season ticket holders. That means having to possibly find a different place to park every time you go to a game. That is quite a hassle and is something most Houstonians aren't used to. Also parking is another expense that we did not have to deal with at The Summit. I loved that arena and wished they had just renovated it instead of turning it to a church and incoveniencing everyone by having an arena downtown. The location of The Summit was MUCH BETTER. It was in a nice part of town, cand was lose to the Galleria, the Medical Center, etc.

Really? Everytime I've gone to an Astros game, it's been great. You're walking in crowds of other fans, and the police were out in full force. That section of downtown seemed really nice - what exactly are you afraid of?

Houstonians and their whining about parking... Sheesh.

If you really want the same place to park every time, is it possible to park in another lot and take Metro (which isn't as scary as you think)?
