I hate calling a spade a spade, but the younger generation of stars, are rarely tatted up. OKC's team, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul dont have tats

Metta said in an interview that John Salmons has a huge beard, and just looking at him, you would think he was criminal or ex-con. But he is actually a God-Fearing good family man.

Never judge a book by its cover

other than the Metta elbow on Harden, and the lockout. The NBA has been doing pretty well, and is the number 1 demographic for kids in america

That 1 and done has helped a LOT, look at this years draft. How many of these kids other than maybe Dion Waiters will turn into a THUG

Maybe you are just seeing something that isnt their

    1. I think the prevalence of tattoos in the league reflects a national phenomenon: more people in general have tattoos these days and they aren't as big of a taboo. About 1 in 5 Americans between 18-50 have tattoos (http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/one-in-five-us-adults-now-has-a-tattoo-140123523.html). It's not just the "thugs" either. I went to a very respected law school and I'd say more than 1 in 5 had tattoos. A few weeks ago I hung out with a friend in med school in Colorado and a large number of her med school friends have tattoos (including my friend). Equating tattoos with thugs is a small minded way of looking at the world.

    2. More individualism I think is a function of the rule changes that make perimeter players basically untouchable and zone defenses that frustrate post play. Still, trying watching the guys without the ball for a few plays. Just because only two guys touch the ball on a given possession doesn't mean it isn't a team game.

    3. Are you serious? Go back and find another player in history as skinny as Durant who was that good. You won't. I think the average NBA player has more muscles but the number of guys with crazy muscles is definitely lower.

Yes, I'm sure he's come to regret them in all of two years since he's gotten a bunch:

Seriously, I love how fans always know what players do and think even better than the players themselves...

Half of your comment is about a decade too late, and the other half is just dumb. Why is it that posters with references to "Texas" in their name tend to say stupid stuff? Coincidence? Hmm

Totally agreed. I checked out during those years basically for reasons #1 and 2 from OP's post. Now those issues are gone--the whole "thug culture" or whatever isn't very visible anymore and most teams seem to be built around team-ball again. It certainly helps that the league's premier player (LBJ) passes as often as he shoots!

I think there are other issues now the NBA should deal with... as concisely listed above by crossover.

NBA is the number 1 sport demo for kids in america, and number 2 behind teens to the NFL. Whether you like it or not the NBA is only going up

I hear the same complaints from my Dad and brother. Its fairly ridiculous, and I think race does have something to do with it. No question hip hop culture has turned off a lot of white people.

It amazes me how anybody who started watching the Rockets teams in the 80s with the drug problems, Olajuwon's self-absorbed ways (earlier in his career), Vernon Maxwell, etc, can turn around and complain about the NBA today.

It's the opposite for me. I love that thug culture, and wish the league would let in remain.

Jon Jones (MMA Fighter is the new flavor of the month)

look at Chael Sonnen... claims he is the highest paid MMA Fighter, is a convicted felon, COCKY, flaboyant... and is yet LOVED by many americans... switch his race to african-american... and he becomes FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR.

race is always an issue, its just funny listening to excuses as too why non-blacks hate african-american athletes

GTFO. I hate that doped white thug Anderson. If Jeremy Lin ever tatooed up, I would spit on his faces.

    Ignorance is bliss I guess.

Op is obviously not going to change his mind as he's obviously still stuck in the 19th century so let us just sit back and shake our heads and not add more fuel to the flame
