Good ones DD, however, I think your first may be a bit too similar in nature to #2 in the list - "We just didn't match their intensity". Your second entry is quite good, although I may separate the two ideas(with your permission, of course) to delineate between them.

    11. "Our team is still young..."

    12. "We're still learning to play with each other"

Keep'em comin guys :) Good work so far!

    cheers,

Oh my, almost overlooked these excellent entries. Thanks to room4rentsf :)

    13. "They just wanted this game more"

    14. "Not everyone showed up to play"

    good job!

"Coach had a great game plan tonight and we got away from it."

You know, suckin' up to the coach after a loss.

He should make a contribution to the Tipjar. No one will notice what he is. ;)

No doubt....maybe a dollar for each time he posts in this thread...

Clutch should be able to pay for the monthly hosting with that!

After loss to Miami some classics from Chron article.
I like to project from "we" what they really mean.

    Steve:
"I'm not taking anything away from them, but [we] had some really good shots that [we] missed."
    [read: JJ, he]

    Steve:
"Normally, our defense is our centerpiece and our backbone."
This one was and exact paraphrase of what JVG was quoted as saying above in the article

    Good one from Yao!:
"[We] held the ball for too long."
    [read: Steve]

    And Cato:
"[We] jumped for pump-fakes. [We] fell for everything today."
    [read: I]
Cato was embarassed at least once I recall.

    Yao's favorite:
"In China, there is a saying..."

(this one was `Everything starts at zero.')

Should we create a separate list of Yao's favorite chinese sayings?

I like this thread, it's funny. Maybe one day, someone could program a "Random Rockets Excuse Generator" with some funny pictures of Rockets players and little bubbles where the excuses appear after a reload.

Funny stuff. One thing I like about JVG, though, is that you almost never hear this crap from him. The man doesn't make excuses.

So for Van Gundy, there's a corollary: things he says when the Rockets WIN and he's still upset:

"Yeah, we won. But we should win. Teams are supposed to win."

"Yao had a good game. And he should have a good game--that's what he should do, night in and night out."

"We won the game, but we're not playing smart. We're playing hard, but we're not playing smart. Good teams play hard and smart. We're not playing smart."

    Cliche category: Stating the Obvious

JVG after this past Miami Loss and the Sac loss in November:

"...you can't get any assists when the ball's not going in."

Also, quotes after 'Big' wins. 'We're happy that we won today, but whats more important is that we win our next game at Denver(after LA).....next game at Memphis(after Minnesota)......etc....yet we ALWAYS lose those games :(

    Agreed.

    Ummm...yeah...since I post so often.

That might be a good idea, montevideo, as this thread is for the express purpose of cataloguing the cliches used after a loss. However, if Yao has a Chinese cliche that fits the above criteria, then by all means it should be included. This is multicultural thread.

Precisely the point, SJC. It would also allow for a neat game of "guess the cliche" when a loss becomes apparent. (even though ZRB will beat everyone at such a game)

Good points, Rasselas, but it just doesn't fit our criteria. Maybe when we're finished with this thread we can start one covering cliches used after a win? Thanks for posting though :)

Ahh, thanks, HeyDude, but please see the response to Rasselas listed above. Although it was a good cliche you listed, it just doesn't fit our parameters.

OK, and on to the next entries...

Thanks for the great work folks and keep'em coming. I know there's plenty more!

    "We couldn't buy a basket tonight... "

"We left it all on the floor... "
(shaking his head with a sigh and attempting a worldly-wise look... kinda hard when you're about 25.)

Rockets guard Steve Francis, who made just three of 17 shots...

"The main thing is we did it to ourselves as far as not taking care of the ball and not executing late to win."

"We just came out and started jacking up some crazy shots."

Courtesy of the Houston Chronicle. Take your pick.
