They don’t need it, but excuses help. If you want to argue that the war was nothing but a pretext for them to lash out at Jews, fine. One might say the same about violent Jewish settlers who attack Palestinian farmers in the West Bank in response to some terror attack. Violent acts are committed by violent people, and the reasons they give are just excuses. That’s certainly one point of view.

Condemnation of violence will be stronger and swifter when it is perceived as purely about enforcing racial superiority (as in the case of your hypothetical white nationalists) rather than perceived as backlash against a war (the attackers yelling “IDF” would suggest it was at least some sort of response to the war). Does this somehow surprise you?

 

Buddy, the hatred of the Arab/Muslim world is so ubiquitous in the West that we literally shame and police Arabic language and restrict them from using basic words like "struggle" in their language without being accused as a terrorist sympathizer. That is the nature of bigotry in a post Cold War and post 9/11 world. Remember the entire western world had the Jews as an enemy including Britain. Dear lord... British aristocracy has a long history of bat **** insane antisemitism. Then after the horrors of the Holocaust people woke up and were like "****... maybe we concentrated hatred towards Jews a bit too much...". Then the new enemy was communism spreading in the global south and within our own borders as the new bogyman. Then after the cold war American had like a decade where we were just hunting for a new scapegoat and enemy and 9/11 happened and suddenly the entire neo-liberal/conservative apparatus was giddy with how they can sell militarism and wealth extraction of the Middle East with hate of the new scapegoat Muslims.


Ya antisemtism is still a problem. A huge one. The wealthiest man on the planet shared a tweet agreeing with the fake conspiracy that Jews are purposely trying to replace the white race in the western world with migrants which is like Nazism 101. But due to the lasting effects of WW2 there is a understanding by the vast majority that Jewish people have been victimized for far too long and we need to be vigilant when we see pockets of antisemitism rising.

And that is why if a group of white Christians for example tried to police the limits of the Hebrew language and making entire expressed basic concepts like "struggle" forbidden words people would immediately in mass call that **** out and make these people social pariahs which would be the correct course of action. But the policing of the Arabic language is nearly the default position even held in many upper white middle class liberal households.

Anybody can speak in generalities and say “the loss of innocent life is a tragedy”. If your reaction to a photo of a mother and her dead baby is to grasp at any possible suggestion that it is fake and “lol” about it, you do not have compassion.

A compassionate person doesn’t hand wave images of dead babies as propaganda and refuse to acknowledge the tragedy of it regardless of who is to blame.

It probably would, yes. You’ve already made this point, and I believe I already agreed with it.

 

Mobs of people attacking Jews because they hate Jews is the same crime and warrants the same condemnation, regardless of the composition of that mob.

On a visceral level, mobs of neo-Nazis hunting down Jews is more reminiscent of what happened under the Nazis, so emotionally it probably does hit harder. Muslim mobs have also attacked Jews plenty historically, under different circumstances, but those historical events don’t evoke the same emotions for most people.

When you are looking to explain how bad you think modern Islamists are, you usually compare them to Nazis rather than historical cases of Muslims oppressing Jews or violently rioting against Jews, do you not? That is because what the Nazis did hits harder emotionally. So, yeah, people wearing Nazi insignia going after Jews in modern times would be an especially distressing event for me.

 

It always amazes me that you went to war in the Middle East against Muslims- that you left the Muslim faith… and that for years you regularly called it a barbaric and out dated faith…. Yet some how you are a Muslim sympathizer?
