Biggest difference between Mo and CWebb: CWebb is a "natural" rebounder, he fights for position and JUMPS to the ball. Mo struggles with rebounding because he's so-so at establishing\fighting for position and he REACHES for the ball. Now will Mo ever become a "natural" rebounder? Well, consider that Don Nelson (say whatever you want about him as a GM, the guy knows basketball and talent, he just can't say "No" to a trade) remarked that in all his years around basketball he's never seen a player become a "rebounder", and alluded to the belief that players just have to have the "instinct" in order to be a good rebounder. It just a question if Mo has the "instinct", which I don't think he has. ------------------
And Taylor's got no heart. I didn't say Max and Smith were Hall of Famers. Because his career was over. The same thing will happen to Taylor when HIS career's over. A lot of people buy Brittany Spears albums. Not many people own the Chess Records box set. That doesn't make Spears a better musician than Lowell Fulson. Well, I'll agree with that. Taylor hasn't accepted the fact he's a role player. Riiiiiight, and he took $2 million out of the goodness of his heart, because he just wanted to win and he thought the Rockets would do just that. He didn't take the 1-year, $2 million contract just so he could improve his chances of cashing in as a free agent. He did it for the W's. Congratulations-- you and Mo are the only two people in America who believe that. 'Paycheck player' means someone who shows up, goes through the motions, and whistles happily to the bank. Joe Barry Carroll. Vin Baker. Rod Strickland. The opposite of your Mo Taylors would be Rick Fox. He took less money to play for a winner and he got a ring out of it. Let's see where Mo signs. If he re-signs with Houston, maybe I'll change my mind a little. If he signs with Sacramento or LA or Philly, I'll really think about changing my mind. If he signs, as I expect, with someone like Denver or Cleveland or Boston-- a team that's light years from contention-- then I will stop thinking about it altogether, so sure will I be that I am right. Wow, this is really fun. I should spend more time in this forum instead of the BBS Hangout. Arguing this stuff's much more fun.
RUBEN PATTERSON. You guys ignore, but that man seems like he could plug in at the 3 and make up for the 4 not being Webber, and having Mo. Of course you guys can debate Vernon Maxwell and Kenny Smith versus Mo and CWEBB, all you want , sounds kinda silly to me. Also though, watching alot more Kings games this year (no thanks to NBC), I have noticed that CWebb does kinda have a Catoish quality to him, sure hes having MVP season, blah blah blah, and I do agree we go to 4th seed pretty quickly next season plugging him in, but it just doesn't look like his heart is in alot of games. Peja makes up for alot of CWebb's defiencies in my opinion, and without that 3 CWebb isn't the player he is this season. (hint hint, RUBEN PATTERSON or RICHARD JEFFERSON) ------------------ -jbond77
I've noticed the same about C-Webb, but the reason is unclear. Is he favoring the injured leg he sustained earlier in the year? Is he conserving energy for the playoffs? Is he letting his team understand since he won't be around next year that they need to carry their own weight anyway? And since he's gonna be a free agent, blah blah blah? And he won't be back. Wherever he'll be, he won't be in Sacramento. Sorry Kings fans. If not for the Rox, I'd probably be a Kings fan myself. Fun to watch. I have it on good authority that his teammates know he's gonna bolt, one way or the other. See the recent "Inside Info" thread. Of course, a man can change his mind and if he does I rescind this post in advance of the July 15 signing date..... ------------------
Freak, I didn't keep count but it was definitely fewer than 20. Maybe a dozen. But I do want to add that I don't like where it looks like this is headed. Before you post please keep in mind that everyone has and is entitled to their opinion. I don't care if you watched all 82 games from the Rockets bench-- you and I may disagree about this but I'm not about to defer to someone else based on the argument that you've seen more games this year than I have. Just thought I would throw that out there pre-emptively in case you were going to use a weak argument like that. [This message has been edited by BrianKagy (edited April 18, 2001).]
I also want to add that in re-reading this thread, I think I've been too hard on Mo. Not really fair, now that I think about it.
jbond77, Finally, someone who sees it as i see it when i opened this post about webbers catoish play as of late. true enough he is having an mvp type season but he's getting alot of help from peja who's not sneaking up on players anymore, he's actually taking it to opposing players. ------------------
I agree that Houston doesn't need CWebb, but I'd love to have him. I think Houston Should wory more about finding someone to fill the Short foward gap than getting Webber. ------------------
