I hate people that always go with what the same news sources that they criticize about having valid or invalid information yet point to it when they see any inkling of doubt in certain players and decide to grade them much less than they're expected to go. But it is what it is...
Saying that none of us know anything about a player we haven't seen play meaningful minutes since 2010 doesn't mean that none of us know anything about anything. Arguing about Mallett one way or the other is nothing but one ignorant opinion versus another ignorant opinion, so they shouldn't be long discussions. I prefer to stick to discussing things we might actually know something about.
Cool. Go find that thread then were you won't be one of the ignorant ones. The rest of us dummies will continue to share our thoughts on Ryan Mallet as a new QB like the thread title asked us to. Why did you even click this thread when you were ignorant on the subject and believe everyone else except the coach and GM to be as well?
That article is such absolute crap. Uhh, I want to try to convince you to accept my personal opinion about backup quarterback X, so I'm going to poo-poo every other option like so: Star draft prospect 1 is listed at 6' 2", 210 pounds. He's probably closer to 5' 11", 195 pounds (let's just arbitrarily subtract a few inches and 15 pounds from him so we can make him look crappier). Yeah he did OK sometimes, but he also struggles with this niggle and that niggle so he's crap and not worthy of consideration. Look at my QB! He's 7' 8", 275 pounds and can throw the ball a quarter mile. He backed up a future hall of famer. He's clearly the only reasonable option here. The end.
First of all, being "ignorant" is not the same as being "dumb", so don't assume that I was calling anyone "dummies". The title of this thread is "Thoughts on Ryan Mallet [sic] as new QB". My thoughts are that since there is pretty much nothing to go on one way or the other, I'd be fine if BOB knew something we didn't and decided to go that route. There really isn't much more to be said on the topic, that doesn't mean that it should turn into one baseless argument vs the opposite baseless argument.
I hate when people that live by the news source that others may criticize, but when those others that may criticize that news source can point to that same news source that those others live by to make a point (because that's the only thing they believe) _ they ignore it when they don't agree with it... Picking and choosing... But C'est la vie...
I completely got grasp of it. But regardless of what you say _ rather anyone says Mallet is a franchise quarterback or not, no one freaking knows...
I hate people that always seem to think that just because Team A. and Team B. accomplished something using a different method that typically has a lower % chance of panning out, it means Team C. can do the exact same thing and still accomplish that same goal. Pero, es lo que es. Also, this was directed at mick_fry.
I always thought he was relatively impressive at Arkansas. Tutoring under Brady doesn't hurt either. However, he is still unproven, and the worst case situation is that he is brought in for significant money like Schaub and becomes another Schaub. Please spare us of that, but how can you be sure. I lean toward taking a "fresh" one and tutor him into your situation.
I hate that people can't see that Teams A and Teams B usually compete for championships where as the Team Ds (who draft QBs with a number one overall pick) usually don't because they have so many other needs that a QB can't overcome. So Team C need to follow teams A's & B's lead... Because as they say the NFL is a copy cat league. And I'm starting to hate this conversation too...lol.. I was responding to what you said to Bobby because I said the same thing he said...
You're two main examples of teams that built their defenses from the ground up did so progressively. It didn't happen over night, it actually happened over multiple coaching tenures (Mora/Holmgren & Tomsula/Singletary/Nolan) so for you to think that this coaching staff (especially with them being a more offensively oriented bunch) will take anything but a QB with the first overall pick is beyond me. The Seahawks and the 49ers had the luxury of being able to choose a QB in the 2nd and 3rd rounds because of what they already had or thought they had (Alex Smith & Matt Flynn). You basically have to be completely positive you have narrowed down your starting caliber QB in that particular draft and also make sure that they will still be there when its your turn time to pick them. Not ever draft holds a Nick Foles, Russell Wislon, or Colin Kaepernick to scoop and score with. And again these teams did not become successful over night, they each had their rough patches before being able to find the right coach and right QB for their respective teams (49ers 8 consecutive losing seasons & Seattle 4). Hell it took Carroll going thru the twilight years of Hasselbeck and a full season of Tavaris Jackson to finally land a starting caliber QB in Wilson. For you too keep pointing at these as the rule is bogus, these are by far the exception.
