He's only 28. I think you're confusing him with Josh McCown.

Just the same I think trading for Brian Hoyer is a pipe dream. He may be just as good as anyone they can pull out this draft or get on the free agent market and plus he's a hometown kid. Cleveland would probably try to trade Weeden before they trade him.

Bill Barnwell perfectlly summed up how I feel about the whole Patriots QB thing.

    http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nfl-free-agency-storm-starts-early/

    List of Patriots QB picks.

    Rohan Davey 2002 Fourth-round pick Released, 2005
    Matt Cassel 2005 Seventh-round pick Traded, 2009
Matt Gutierrez 2007 Undrafted Released, 2009
    Kevin O’Connell 2008 Third-round pick Released, 2009
Brian Hoyer 2009 Undrafted Released, 2012
    Ryan Mallett 2011 Third-round pick

Basically this means that Belicheck himself won the lottery with Brady and there's absolutely no evidence to suggest the Patriots are somehow smarter than everyone else either in terms of QB scouting or development. I'm willing to take a chance on Mallet, but the price better be really cheap. I wouldn't even use a 5th round pick. More like 6th rounder and a conditional pick next year based on Mallet's performance.

He should be okay and has sat behind some decent coaching and a HoF QB so he surely has learned something.
He will still need time to gel and experience playing with a new team so I am not expecting miracles but the potential is absolutely there.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing him and a genuine, full fledged passing game in Houston again.

Couldn't one argue that Cassell and Hoyer (and now, Mallett) at least became starters elsewhere?

To say this makes me wonder if you have even seen the juice Mallett gets on his passes. Guy throws an absolute rope.
If Schaub could throw like that, he would still be our QB and we probably would have won a spot in the SB by now.

Hit it right on the money. Good contract!

But you have not only the first year growing pains of a new staff out of the way, you actually have a winning record to build off of.

And again, what move would you rather they have done at QB that they aren't doing right now? Regardless of who they sign, they're all short term deals.

We've had a brief taste of Mallett, though. We know what he's capable of, whereas last year, it was pure speculation. And, frankly, I think Hoyer's track record - while not, mind you - is better than Fitzpatrick's.

I don't know that we really know what Mallett is realistically capable of because a one game sample isn't a lot to go on....hence why he had to sign back so cheaply. I say this because Case Keenum's first 2 starts he threw for over 600 yards and 4 TD's with no interceptions with a 118 QB rating and he certainly wasn't really capable of living up to that early performance.

That said, I'm hopeful that Mallett can end up decent.

Agree. I think Hoyer has a higher ceiling than Fitzpatrick.

Hoyer had a fine quarter-season 2 years ago before ripping up his ACL.

Then last year the Browns went full dumpster fire.

I think we have improved our QB situation as much as we possibly could have from this time last year.

Am I misreading this or do I detect salt?

Compared to what Matt Schaub (7MM guaranteed) and Matt Flynn (10MM guaranteed) got on their first contracts, it's a friggin' steal.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I completely agree with Bobby on this.
