Difference is Mallet was considered 1st round talent and fell to the 3rd round because of off the field issues. TJ Yates probably would have went undrafted if the Texans didn't pick him up in the 5th. Still doesn't mean that O'Brien wants him. But it does mean O'Brien wants him if the rumors of the Texans contacting the Patriots about him are true...
Really? Accuracy is the most important attribute for a QB to have and Mallet never had it. I never remembered him being projected 1st round. 3rd round seemed early for him but I liked the moves the Patriots. Mallet still isn't accurate.
I've also read he has gotten better on his short passes and that's where he had accuracy issues. And I didn't say he was projected to go in the 1st round... I said he was considered 1st round talent.
well, the most succesful teams are that way, if they players cant play anymore, wahy not bringing someone else? and thats why kubiak failed too, he kept players and coaches even when they were more trouble. He didnt bench Schaub until he got injured, and then he puts him back in the game, and if Kubiak was still here, I bet, Schaub would be the leader for the starting QB next year. So I prefer coaches and teams that they bring someone to see how is he playing, if he sucks, he gets cut. You will never win if you only bring your friends, and even they are trouble for the team, you keep them, because you dont want to hurt his feelings.

The idea of giving the Patriots anything for anyone short of Tom Brady would probably piss most people off.
lol, ya keep dreaming NE. It makes no sense to give up anything for Mallet considering he's a FA next yr. I'm not buying it.
But that's just it BOB might want to bring him in if he don't work out he's a free agent if he does sign him long term. I must admit this scenario really is interesting but I would be really POed if we give a 2nd round pick for mallett 3rd round I'm fine with 2nd no way.
IMO if the texans foolishly trade for coke head mallett, they will extend him on the spot just as they did with schaub.
Agreed. As foolish as it would be to give up anything of value to obtain Mallet, it would be even more foolish to not lock him up once he's ours.
Hypothetically, if the Texans were to trade for Mallett (hypothetical, not debatable), what would be the ideal timing of trade, given the impact to the 1:1 and theoretically the draft? If we were to trade for Mallett before the draft, which is what I would suspect, would that dilute the haul that we might receive for the 1:1? Meaning, other teams wouldn't fear, or would fear less, that we would take a QB at 1:1, if we have RM on the team. Would we then be forced to take a non-QB at the 1:1 without the significant haul for a trade down? Would that move all of the value to St. Louis for the trade-up? I guess my question, is would it change anything, for the positive, or negative, relative to our leverage position for the 1:1? Or, if BOB, et al, feel like Mallett is the franchise, does the above even matter, were we to have the chance to get "Big Tex"? (I am on record as pro-Clowney and that hasn't changed, but it irrelevant to the above scenario)
Don't see NE making out like Bandits, either, at least not from McNair, a guy who probably regrets giving up so much for Schaub.
Saw Ryan Mallett last night at 5th amendment.. For those wondering what that is, its a club on travis st.
