It was/is a bad business decision, find someone that played for the Rockets - that is what we the fans desire.... DD
He's terrible, but at a minimum he checks some boxes that weren't checked by the previous crew and these days that's more important than quality. Given that the Rockets are unlikely to win many games this season, I guess it doesn't matter who has those jobs as not many people will be watching the games anyway.....but they really should look to put someone who is actually good at calling games in that spot here in a few years when the Rockets might start to get good again.
That is not true, Mike Newlin was good, Calvin Murphy was great, we lost out on Jim Peterson to the Wolves, he is excellent - I am sure there are lots of former players that we could get to fill that role. I like Bullard..... DD
Other than the Al-prawn/Al-preen/Al-pa-reen pronunciation carousel I've also been pleasantly surprised. I don't think he's great but he's not bad. I haven't muted the sound yet, nor have I wanted to.
he’s kinda boring…not terrible, but was hoping for better when Bill and Bull were finally gone Hollins is a PB&J sandwich
he’s insinuating that Hollins was only hired because he’s a minority…he’ll probably try and deny and twist it to something else, but that’s definitely what he’s trying to convey in a wannabe slick way
I don't deny that at all. That's exactly what I was saying. It's the ONLY thing he brings to the table as an announcer. I honestly don't mind checking boxes, the people you hire should better represent your target audience if possible. When it comes to the target basketball audience, maybe you don't always want nothing but pasty white guys calling games.....I just wish they had found someone who checks boxes AND was good at the job. I feel like they went the lazy route and we ended up with a garbage announcer as a result.
If only preseason was a part of his interview process to see how he did and if he was a good fit or not, and the fans then got to give their input on if he was the right candidate for the position.
I don't have chemistry with Ryan Hollins as an announcer. I'll give him half the season to impress me.
