I remember that guy, he did a hilarious cheer right when the shot went in, that one dude in a sea of yellow with his rockets jersey on, laughed my ass off.
my thoughts to add from the 105th row (WAY in the uppers): -- Though both teams started flat, halfway through the first quarter it still looked like McGrady just woke up out of bed and took some Nyquil before tipoff. Had NO passion, zest, leadership, anything. They were slow getting into their sets, very much lackadaisical. Scola did not have a very good opening game, but his instant energy and hustle and Mike James coming in DEFINITELY lifted the team out of their lull. Team was still a bit erratic on offense but their movements were much crisper. When Bonzi came in it was like my goodness we SO have it over this team we're playing. Pretty much what you want out of the bench... -- About Mike James, yeah he hit some 3's and brought a spark. But in that game, just BAD POINT GUARD play. Pounding and pounding the ball which just ended up with the ball getting deflected when he finally did pass with 10 seconds left... Driving into traffic, trying to make a play to just turn the ball over. Missed ALL his FTs (which is rare), and I'm pretty sure I did see a wave-off when McGrady was in.....From my view it was absolutely the EXACT SAME as Steve Francis, no difference whatsoever. I want to give him a C but its probably more B- cuz this is whats expected of him. -- Adelman just couldnt keep Battier on the bench. Battier comes out- 2 possessions later he's back in. Didnt think his defense looked all that good against Kobe, but then you look up and Kobe's 10-27 or something from the field. And what can you say about the shot. -- Then McGrady finally woke up, and results were swell. Final stats showed 4 assists for him and Kobe, but McGrady's 4 assists is just different than Kobe's..There was a sequence where Kobe chucked up two misses that the Rockets got, then McGrady comes back down and doesnt counter with his own shots but initiated the offense and got SOMETHING out of it (free throw for Chuck I believe). Then the people got their matchup and he got to play a little D on Kobe, and Kobe was working MUCH harder to get his against McGrady than even against Battier. Not saying McGrady's a better player but his TEAM play much surpasses Kobe's. McGrady "could" have been more involved late (though the design was to go to Yao) and his killer instinct and aggression is behind Kobe's (who can match it, really). But this supposed widening gap between the two wasnt apparent for this game. could say a LOT more, but I want to respond to other threads
Thanks for the Read and the Pictures... Nice eye to spot Jack, Lou Adler, and even Penny Marshall on the end-court with your camera... Funny how from just courtside the game looks like a high school event in some ways!... Until you see how close Yao's head is to the rim... Kareem was sitting behind Odom at the Lakers bench for a while on TNT, but I don't think anyone on the telecast mentioned it when they showed Odom, not sure if it was for the whole game...
nice pics... those looked like awesome seats. if you don't mind me asking, how much were those seats?
Thanks for the observations and sweet pics, The one of kobe fading and tracy defending is really cool, except that its out of focus. As others have asked, how did you get those great seats and what would they cost a layperson??
great pics, great post. thx. jealous of your seats! made me appreciate the game more reading your post. reminds you that these guys are human, b/c sometimes they seem fictional cause they are such legends.
kobe can never consistently shoot over tmac on the perimeter b/c tmac is so long. tmac can always play him for the drive and force him to drive into the help defense and that's why kobe has to work harder. i don't know why adelman did not use tmac on him more since tmac didn't really do much playmaking so was fresh. yea, in the 4th, adelman wanted tmac to be a playmaker and get yao and others involved. he was doubled hard in the 4th.
A few people are asking how I got those seats and how much they cost. I just moved to LA from NY in order to work in the film business. I just got off of working on my first movie (The Eye, Jessica Alba) and wanted to treat myself. Imagine my amazement when I see my favorite team playing in my new city on opening night! I had to go but couldn't afford it. So, I decided to play the big brother card. I called my father (re-married, already in LA) and told him I'll take my step bro to the game since he's a big lakers fan and i love the rox. my dad was so happy he told me to get the best seats available. the ticket price printed on the ticket was $230 (5th row, section 110). however, we paid nearly double that on stubhub since I wasn't smart enough to get the tickets the day they went on sale. anyway I'm going to the Clipper game next month when the rockets are in town, I have awesome seats to that too. I'll be sure to take pics again and post them since I've gotten such a nice response!
