Asik is fine. He plays great with this line. Last thing you want is trade for a big name that come in a kill the chemistry of the team. Like previous poster said, Howard is slow. It will not work with the team pace, unless the Rockets slow down for Howard.
what's silly is passing judgement on an event that won't take place for months to come and all variables aren't played out. what's silly is trying to determine D-Mo's likely production on 3 games started. what's silly is trying to determine what kind of role T-Rob will be able to play when he has his legs/playbook under him. I cast my vote for enjoying the season as it plays out and circling back to this issue when the time comes. You'd also be foolish to not have an eye on current team members and think that some of that max money you have might be well allocated to ear mark for their next contract.
He's getting more rebounds than Asik this year AND he's having an off year. Normally he's averaging high 12's-mid 14's. He's amazing when it comes to rebounding. Even better than Asik.
On every DH12 rumor thread I read, I'd say 60-70 percent of users don't want him in a Lakers uniform. I have to ask myself, why?? I understand the love that Bynum gets here, I love the dude too, the dude is a physical monster and is important to this team. But he is no Dwight Howard. The fact of the matter is Bynum can be injury prone and simply has trouble playing consistently. If he could stay healthy or at least give full effort every game, he would be a top 5 center. But he doesn't. Howard brings a serious offensive inside presence that will make teams crowd in the inside even more letting our 3 point bombers do thir thing. We wouldn't lose anything defensively, as Howard (in perhaps his worst season yet) is rebounding more than Bynum. Howard is coming into his prime as well. I also understand the perception that Dwight is a punk, but he came from a horribly run team in Orlando. I seriously think he would fit wonderfully here with Kobe and Nash. As for Bynum, think about it. Most teams are craving a center like him. I'd imagine we could trade Bynum alongside some assets for a legit power foward or even a n upgrade at the 1. Face it, lakerfans. We need to get this guy. Also, he is probably hung. Just saying.
I'm undecided about Dwight but it's really hard for me to put much faith in your words when you say that the Lakers are even worse run than Orlando. Don't get me wrong I have never been a Lakers fan and I despise the Lakers but the fact is they are the most successful franchise in NBA history. Hopefully the Rockets will take that honor from this point on under DM's leadership.
We have the pieces we need. They just need a little more experience and minor tweaks to skillsets/bodies. We're set to be an increasingly good playoff caliber team for the next couple of years. Howard to Houston is not a good idea for the reasons that have already been stated. He's not an ideal fit for the current makeup of this team. Plus, Omer has demonsrated the capacity to improve offensively. I believe he has a good work ethic and will come back next season with even more tools. We're in a good position with the right personnel going forward.
Though I don't support it, the argument would be that Omer Asik provides close to what Dwight does for half the price so we should upgrade other positions instead.
To people that think Howard isn't a immature me-first teammate http://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/19pj3w/dwight_howard_my_team_in_orlando_was_a_team_full/ (btw I'm a Lakers fan and I hate this guy and would to swap Asik with Howard)
I see this point made all the time, but try to ignore it. There's almost no point. IF you just don't like him and can't root for him, and you don't want him here because of that, I get it. I really do. There's a handful of players I just couldn't root for if they joined. BUT I can't piece together the logic otherwise. It's so puzzling I couldn't even start. He's had a 'bad' year and yet he's still leading the league statistically. He's on the decline? How about he's on the recovery. He came back from injury too early and he hasn't been 100%. He has an injury prone career? There is no evidence to support it. He's a much better finisher around the rim than Asik. While ugly and raw, you can dump it into the post and expect much more. He can't match w/ our pace? You don't have 5 guys running the break equally. Not to mention we've done pretty good w/ Asik so far. Asik is a better bargain for the money? Maybe but who cares? We're not competing for best (Chandler) bang for the buck contest. We're trying to win a title. He's proven to be a top 10 (even 5) player in the league. You want to win championships? You need to collect as many of those as possible, because that's what every other championship contender has right now and by nature are in short supply. Yes, his FTs are a huge weakness, but the net positive is better than anything else out there. BTW Asik is around 50% as well. And if anything else needs to be said, Morey jumps on DH in a heartbeat if available. As for the Lakers woes, the Lakers have had plenty of problems besides blaming Dwight. The media's narrative on what their main problem is has rotated all season, remember? Kobe jacking up shots, no team defense, Nash and Kobe are getting old, etc. The Zen master even said Dwight wasn't used properly. Using Dwight as the scapegoat for the season is way off. I'm a huge fan of Asik's game. He's done great. Surpassed expectations. He might even get better. Maybe. But drop the sentimentality, the emotions, and be a logical GM for a second. In a perfect world there would be a top 10 PF on the market to match our most glaring need. But it's not and we have to take what's best available. That said, I think there's a very low chance Dwight leaves LA now, making this all moot.
How about it's not silly to want Dwight Howard nor to not want him. Abortions for some and miniature American flags for others. There are arguments both ways and it's a debate on which educated men may disagree. Plus all the rabble too. I'd say 60-70 percent of statistics are made up.
You don't think being a selfish teammate doesn't affect how the team plays on the court. I've watched almost every Lakers game this season and just talking about basketball this guy has a weak post game but yet demands the ball in the post (he's second in the league in post-ups only to Al Jefferson). This guy thinks he's a dominate post player when in reality he's not. Look I would love Howard if he just rebounded, played good defense, and set good picks and not be a focal part of the offense. But his attitude clearly shows he thinks he should be the main offensive threat.
Howard excels in every category over Asik, including drama, and that says a lot about how good the guy is. His only weakness is from the charity line. Howard replacing Asik >> CP3 replacing Lin If you are looking to win something in the next 3 years, there's is little doubt that you grab either Howard or CP3. However, given only one choice....Howard will make the biggest impact.
Dwight was a top 5 player in the league and obviously has it in him to be that again. If we can get our hands on a player that can be top 5, we take it immediately with no hesitation.
Sorry, but I don't like Dwight Howard. I hate his attitude, he's a drama queen and has many injuries. I don't want that on my team. I take Asik over him any day.
I like the direction of this team, we're trying to build a team for the future on a solid ground we don't need Dwight. We have aloooot of talented player let them develop and add suitable pieces!
