We definitely need to draft well to build this team. Trading next year's 1st round pick should not be an option unless it brings us someone young in return. We cannot rely on grizzled veterans to keep up with the youthful legs around the league. We need to find athletes in next year's draft, hopefully some that can hit the three. If, God forbid, we stay on the track for top 3 pick in the draft, hopefully we'll be able to trade down for two picks. The draft doesn't look so top heavy, so maybe we'll get a contributor out of the picks.
exactly. too bad we can't trade alston back for mike james' expiring deal. if the cap were to raises 5% that would put it at around $52M. i'm sure we can find an expiring deal for swift, and if we still had james coming off the books we would be at around $38M-ish. that's enough room to spend $7M on a guy, have about $2M to spend on a rookie, and resign bowen and baxter for $1M each. we would have a 10 man roster with a little under $3M left. just enough to sign a few of undrafted rookies and a couple of unguarateed training camp guys to round out the roster. but of course we still have rafer. i would be happy keeping this team together and trying to add a piece or two through the MLE next summer. just glancing at the URFA list: terry clax bonzi bobyjax evans cassell battie cato nazr murry hunter brunson atkins
