From another thread I posted in.. Essentially you would have traded T-mac,Scola,Landry, + Fillers for Bosh + Martin. "Nobody believes this but D. Morey is targeting C. Bosh... 3 out of the 4 incoming players expire after this season.. ++++ we have about 3 players coming off the books as well. Chris Bosh will become a Rocket this Off-Season! Starting Lineup Yao Ming Chris Bosh Shane Battier Kevin Martin Aaron Brooks 6th Man Ariza (God I hope he gets traded somehow) I will also predict that if Scola doesn't agree to a friendly contract that he will be gone in a sign and trade (or multiple team trade) for Bosh."
The focus should be on next year, not this year. Yao compensates for a lot of defensive mistakes. And in regards to bench scoring, I wouldn't be surprised if Brooks came off the bench next year.
People aren't overvaluing McGrady. It's the contract that makes him valuable. That's why these other team's are interested, not because he's the T-Mac of old. The Rockets are trading two valuable things here -- McGrady's contract and Landry. It's reasonable to expect a lot back. I like Martin and I think he fits our needs well, but the Rockets need to come away with either a good pick or a backup center with size out of this deal for it to be worth it.
We have a MLE too for a backup PF. Martin scored 45 points in Dallas weeks ago if I am not mistaken, can Landry do that? Once again, Morey is a winner.
C'mon, the Rockets aren't doing this deal by itself without picking up some talented big(s)/other assets before the deadline....too many holes. Landry IS NOT GOING OUT for just this. Patience Grasshoppers.
I mean Martin + expirings for Tracy is fine, but when you add Landry and look at what's coming back as of now, it pretty much telegraphs a nice long, athletic 4 coming here (and probably picks)....Hill + pick/picks
My Man I agree with you, but what about K-Mart ?? he has been healthy in the last couple years or so, I don't man do jump the gun yet, we just gonna have to wait and see if this trade is gonna be god.
This is kind of an arbitrary stat combination, but I think it sheds a little light on his efficiency as a scorer. Now, I'm not sure if this is true, but it is something I read. Maybe someone can refute it. He's the only player to ever shoot over 40% from three AND average 8 free throws made per game in a season (emphasizing MADE not taken). Mind you, he did this twice and one of those seasons he averaged 9 free throw makes per game.
He's missed 20-30 games the last two years. He also broke his wrist this year (huge disappointment to my fantasy team.)
This trade seems like it does have a lot in common with the Thorpe for Drexler trade (obviously we're not in the same position we were back then, but still). I have to say, though, I think you people who are saying we overvalue Landry actually UNDERvalue him. He's the most productive player off our bench, and our bench often outperforms our starters. He's arguably been our best player so far this season. ... That doesn't necessarily mean this was a bad trade (In Morey I Trust), but Landry was awesome...
I think Battier is gone this offseason for a big as part of a package, assuming we are done adding major pieces today. We've got too many wings, and his offense has become too much of a liability. We are slowly turning into the Adelman Kings, soon to be with a showtime Lakers twist- Yao playing the role of Jabbar. Brooks, Lowry, and Martin is a dynamic backcout ... Ariza/Budinger is plenty at the 3 ... now we just have to find a good to great 3rd big man to solidify the frontcourt (and as insurance to Yao). I think we are one good rotation player away from seeing our future: Brooks Lowry Martin Ariza Budinger Scola Yao Let's hope it's enough, and let's hope that rotation player is an all-star caliber PF or a great rookie pick. And the best news in all of this, I think, is it means less touches for Ariza. He can go back to being a role player now that we have a go-to scorer.
Exactly. And not only that, it addresses a bigger need. Whether you talk about this year or next year, The Rockets had nobody that can score from the SG position. Aaron Brooks is a chucker and with Lowry injured, you couldn't even play Brooks at SG. Ariza is an atrocity from the outside. There is no way that Sacramento is giving up Martin for the defensive liability that is Luis Scola, so The Rockets only real asset to get a player of the caliber of Martin was Landry. Obviously, you would want to keep Landry, but not if it comes down to getting Martin. Also, as far as the whole "injury prone" thing. Is there really any such thing? I remember Marcus Camby some years ago had the same rap. It's just one of those things. Any other player could be in that same position. In closing, Morey should try to pickup Chucky Atkins from Washington. He has a small expiring contract and could keep him as insurance if one of their point guards go down again.
I know we all loved Carl Landry but you got to move on and look past the love we have for him and see the greatness of this trade. Give this trade some time and i think this will work out really well for the rockets.
