Actually, it was more of a joke about the movie Philadelphia. That movie just HAPPENED to feature HIV.

I would've made the same joke if it was about the Muppets.

And now, it's inevitable that someone mentions the HIV positive Muppet. I guess that'll be me.

Oh, lol. Are you sure? Are you HIV positive?

See, now THAT was an HIV joke. I just happened to steal it from South Park.

    Are you HIV positive?

Trust me... I have a MUCH sicker sense of humor. I'm censoring myself. A lot. Read Crooked Little Vein and you'll catch a glimpse. On second thought... don't. Children read this board.

I'm going to go back on-topic here. Fact is, this wasn't the Philadelphia game. There won't BE a Philadelphia game this year. The problems with this team run too deep for a simple wake up call to fix them.

Last year, the Rockets were simply getting used to a new coach. After some initial struggles with changing the way they did things under JVG, he found a compromise between the two styles. And JVG's defense remained.

Last year, the players were, at the time, healthy. T-Mac's knee was an occasional problem but nothing like this. Rafer, Shane, Yao, and Scola were fine. And Scola was turning out to be an AMAZING pickup. Players who were used to compensating for the Chuck Wagon's lack of offense suddenly found another option. And opposing teams that had previously left Chuck alone weren't prepared for Scola.

Last year, the team wasn't actively fighting. T-Mac wasn't upset. He never quit in the middle of a game. Our biggest complaint at this time was Bonzi Wells.

During the Philadelphia game, Tracy didn't play. Scola wasn't starting. Shane played 42 minutes. During the Philadelphia game, the Rockets still had JVG's defensive identity burned into them. During the Philadelphia game, there were obvious things for the Rockets to fix to make themselves so much better.

But this year, there are no obvious fixes. One of team's superstars, Tracy McGrady, is as bad as he was in 05-06. The missing puzzle piece, Ron Artest, has an ankle the size of a football. Shane's injury will likely plague him all season. Teams are keying in on Scola and Landry, and Landry just isn't what he was during the Philadelphia game last year (he's still good though). There's no rotation, no effort, no identity, and no commitment to defense.

This is not a car with a flat tire. The engine is leaking oil, the front axle has a tiny fracture, and someone tried to repair the engine with parts from a Fiat. The problems with this team run far deeper than they did during the Philadelphia game.

That's why this wasn't the Philadelphia game.
That's why there will be no Philadelphia game.

EDIT: I don't think this team can't win. But I don't think there's going to be a dramatic shift after one game.

this team HAS NO IDENTITY!!!!!!! defense is the ONLY constant and we lost that and we aint NEVER gonna be good on offense like the old suns and get away with playin no d

    NO IDENTITY = NO SUCCESS

No. I got it. Hence the Philadelphia joke up top. But I figured here was as good a place as any to say that there would be no magic turnaround like last year.

And I like Adelman. He's a good coach, and he needs to stay.

Yao Ming (or no other Rocket) has come out to blasts the Rockets effort. This is not the real Philadelphia game.
