and u know why we need to be patient?

battier, james, bonzi historically throughout their careers haven't shot this bad - all below 38%. so to assume they'll do this the whole year, i don't think so. they'll pick it up => offensively we'll pick it up.

scola is still a rook and he'll learn hopefully.

but rafer??? this is what u call hopeless. he said he practiced his J 2 yrs ago b4 the start of last yr => he shot 38%. he said he had a great offseason this yr and he shoots 32%. this is a trend of more than a small sample so u can conclude he sucks.

our offense right now has everybody sucking outside of yao and tmac. so i wouldn't panic if i was you. or anybody else on this board.

just rafer has to be replaced.

Maybe if we're lucky the Spurs will put Bruce Bowen on Alston and do that thing he do so well.

GermanRoxRan, after researching on Yao's FT stats dating back to the 04/05 season, I have some shocking news for you. Are you ready?

Prior to Wednesday night game against the Lakers, Yao had not missed a single Clutch Free Throw for more than 2 1/2 years as a Rocket, according to the same definition of Clutch Free Throw on the 82games.com link in your original post.
Yep, the last time Yao missed a Clutch Free Throw was on March 2, 2005, in the game against the Wizards at Washington, with the Rockets trailing 95-97 and 1 minute 12 seconds left.

We are talking about a total of 150 games spanning almost 2.5 seasons (roughly half of Yao's NBA career thus far) in which Yao DID NOT miss a Clutch Free Throw.

Per that very definition -- the one by which the outdated and incomplete FT stats were initially cited, I doubt you can possibly find in the entire NBA another player that is as clutch as Yao in the same stretch or in the same number games played. I challenge any YOH who agrees with you to find one.

This begs several questions. Are you telling the truth or your own illusion? Did you really watch all the Rockets game since 05/06 as you claimed? Did you watch Yao Ming's games with an open and fair mind or choose to believe what you wish to see?

The fact is, Yao's FT% declined for two consecutive seasons after his rookie year, but jumped over 85% mark during his breakout season in 05/06 and has stayed there ever since. If there is a pattern, it is indicative of Yao's confidence and clutchness at the FT line, which is a definitive rebuttal to your bogus claims such as
If we use less restricted and more inclusive term, FT in Clutch Play, where Clutch Play is defined by 82games.com as:
we arrive at same conclusion, that is, Yao has become an undisputed clutch free thrower since the beginning of the 05/06 season:
    Code:
              FT_in_Clutch_Play
    Season FTM FTA FT%
    02/03 32 37 86.5
    03/04 42 54 77.8
    04/05 25 37 67.6
    04/05_P 5 7 71.4
    05/06 21 37 87.1
    06/07 16 17 94.1
    06/07_P 5 5 100.0
LOL ... maybe I should have split my initial post into two so that you don't get overly sensitive about me calling names? I didn't mean to specifically address to you in the 2nd part. Did you not notice the plural "s" in YOHs and TOFs? But look, here is the problem. You came into a thread that was clearly started by a YOH/TOF, and threw out a bogus claim based on outdated and incomplete data and your own extremely biased perception to discredit Yao, even if you are not a YOH (I always love YOHs' catch phrase "I love Yao but ..."), you sure acted like one, or one that is a "partner-in-crime." ;) I usually don't like to argue against someone's opinion, but if the opinion is based on falsehood or is of no merit, I won't hesitate to call it out.

That's cool. We are all Rockets fan.

That data is misleading. I agree that was the case for Yao between 2002-2005. Yao used to choke at FT line when the game is on the line. But since 2nd half 2005-2006, I don't recall Yao missed many FTs in clutch time, if at all, until last game.

Are you a YOF? I'm just asking because whenever someone criticizes Yao, you bring T-Mac into the conversation. Maybe you should just focus on defending Yao without having to go off on McGrady, it makes you look a lot smarter.

Yeah, I'm laughed when people were ready to put our Gm on pedestal in preseason without playing a single game. Talent doesn't always equate to winning. I think Bonzi will be 3rd option once his shooting improve because he can take it inside due to his size. But we still need athleticism when the shot not falling beside Tmac to challenge team like Dallas or PHX. They can put on a scoring show. And I'm still waiting to see how our PG situation will play out. MJ, RA, AB, or SF3??? more talent is better but how will it translate to winning games?
